The town grew quickly; by 1840, it had a single store and three families were living there. In 1851, when western Butler County were organized, Lansdale became one of its seven townships within that new county. In 1867, the Borough of Shadyside annexed territory from both Ligonier Township and Mansfield Township to form a borough; this annexation made Lansdale one township again within Butler County but with no responsibility for school funding or other civic functions save for keeping track of population changes. In 1870, when eastern Butler County were organized into four counties (Allegheny, Beaver Valley, Crawford–led by Judge John Prentice), Mansfield Township seceded from Butler County and formed part of Crawford County until 1898 when it rejoined Butler County as part of the newly created Monessen School District No.-3 which also included Belleview and Penn Hills communities north of downtown Pittsburghs business district along I-376 (now US 36). In 1876–77 an Act to establish a post office at Linton moved business base westward from Manville to what are now North Shore Drive and South Park Avenue in what is now Easton while construction was underway on what would become Orchard Road through present day Uniontown where the then Post Office Building still stands today - today’s intersection with Wyoming Avenue near Walmart which once occupied much more land than it does now! Mr Crouse donated his lot next door on Wyoming Ave NW corner Old Cutler Rd so that Post Office could be built! A post office called "Lansdale" opened in 1865 at 6th & Market Streets after General Wm T Lanning bought some lands hereabouts near modern day Mellon Arena for $4/acre ($0.)
