In 1812, Lancaster County was organized. The first military unit in the county was a company of Hessian mercenaries called the 5th Regiment of PA Volunteers. The regiment served for three years and then disbanded. In 1814, there were reports of a large force of Indians on the frontier and it was decided to send an expedition against them. A force of about 150 men and boys arrived at Lancaster on July 4, 1814, but soon realized that they would not be able to fight the Indians. They disembarked their boats and marched into town to ask for help from the local militia detachment under Colonel John Brownell. Brownell had previously fought with General George Washington in 1776 and knew how to handle a group of young soldiers fresh out of school. He ordered his men to form ranks and march back up York Street towards Market Square where they were met by a cheering crowd led by Mayor James McKnight who gave them gloves as part of the presentation. After getting word back from Brownell that he could not come join them because he was too busy leading an army against the Seminole Indians, some OFI volunteers went into battle anyway while others returned home sick or injured. By September 1st, there were only about 50 men remaining in Lancaster County when news came through England that General Andrew Jackson had invaded Tennessee with a large army and was looking for places to cross over into Kentucky so he could attack Louisville instead! The 5th Regiment PA Volunteers was reactivated again in order to provide infantry support for Jackson’s army as it moved forward towards Bowling Green (Kentucky). It is interesting to note that this particular regiment never saw combat during Andrew Jackson’s entire military career; he only ever used them as garrison troops until his retirement in 1845 at which point they were disbanded again. The city of Reading also has a significant presence within the township-level government covering all but one tenth of rural area within Township 12 Easton without City Services Lancaster is bordered by Scranton to its south-southwest; Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to its north; Doylestown to its east; Allentown to its northeast; Moon Township (but not including Plumstead) to its northwest; and Carbonate Township (but not including West Pittston) to its west. As of 2010 census data there are 15,564 people living in Lancaster Borough alone while 2 other boroughs make up their combined municipal population: Southwick Borough which covers only part of what used to be part of Southwick Township before being annexed by Lancastrian Borough and Easton Heights Borough which includes both parts once again before they too were annexed into Lancastrian Borough as well as portions along Route 221 outside those bounds before becoming independent municipalities under their own name: these two boroughs make up much larger areas than what once constituted just one municipality with an official name - that would have been Southwick Township - although both organizations still use "Lancaster" throughout their operations despite never actually having any actual residents located within that boundaries except for very limited access purposes only
