At the turn of the 20th century, Kingston was a small fishing village on the Susquehanna River in western Pennsylvania. But it had become an important naval base due to its location at the mouth of the river and its abundance of natural resources. The town's first Naval Commander was Rear Admiral John S. Sloat, who led U.S. forces during the Spanish-American War and helped build America's first aircraft carrier, USS Enterprise. The United States Navy established Kingston as its main naval base in 1898 after World War I ended with America's victory over Spain. The navy used Kingston for training and testing new warships, submarines, aircraft carriers and other military equipment until 1945 when it closed down following World War II. Kingston, Pennsylvania is a borough in Erie County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,628 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first settler in Kingston was George Washington who passed through on his way to Westmoreland County in 1776. In 1824, John Morris established a tavern and post office here which he named after himself. In 1827, the village of Kingston was organized from portions of Delaware Township and became part of Erie County when that township was combined with the rest of neighboring Delaware Township to form new York County. In 1881, Kingston incorporated as a borough and changed its name to Kingston Borough. On May 1, 1984, it reverted to its original name as an act of incorporation within Erie County following the passage by the PA Legislature of Act No. 283 entitled "An Act designating certain places in Allegheny County as Boroughs." According to the 2000 census,[2] there are 5,628 people living in Kingston Borough: 3% White (non-Hispanic), 97% Black or African American (non-Hispanic), 0% Native American or Alaska Native (non-Hispanic), 2% Asian (non- Hispanic) and 1% other races (non-Homicidal). Of these residents 2%, or 291 people identify themselves as being non-white; this number jumps up to 4%. Black/African Americans represent 47%, Asians 21%, Hispanics 9%, while whites make up 3%. Most residents are born in Pennsylvania but some residents were born elsewhere within America; during 2000 Census they ranged from Canadian citizens who were 1% of all boroughers to those who had been born outside America altogether! The largest ancestry group among this population is Italian - 20%. Other ancestries include Irish at 8%, Czechoslovakian at 6%, Polish at 5%, Lithuanian at 4%.

Kingston, PA is a small town in the Susquehanna Valley of Pennsylvania that was founded by the Lewis and Clark Expedition on July 21, 1775. The town lies along the banks of the Susquehanna River and is located about 20 miles south of Harrisburg. Kingston was one of two towns chartered by Pennsylvania General Assembly on September 1, 1781 as a result of the Northwest Ordinance. The other town was Cumberland, PA. The first settler in Kingston was John Paugam. He built a log cabin near where he now stands on what is now called Paugam's Lane. By 1783, there were about 25 residents in Kingston. The first school in Kingston was opened in 1785 by Mrs. Hannah Swartzentruber and Mr. Israel Hoggis from Cumberland Township. In 1806, Ethan Allen moved to Kingston from Kittanning County and began farming here with his family. In 1828, Isaac Ladd purchased land here from George Brown for $1 per acre (later increased to $2 per acre). Ladd became one of the most important figures in local history because he helped develop transportation and commerce within and outside of Kingston through his business interests and philanthropy. He also founded Stroudsburg College which later became Penn State University in 1865. During World War II, many people working at Lancaster County Bombing Range #4 came from Kingston to work there during 1943-1945; this helped make Kingston an important center for wartime industries such as defense production until those industries shifted to nearby Scranton after 1945 due to lack of skilled labor available at that location during war time period

The first settler in Kingston was John Dorney in 1793. He and his family were farmers and later ranchers. In 1814, Kingston became part of the United States after the Treaty of Ghent ended the American Civil War. Kingston was named for James K. Livingston, 3rd Baron Livingston of Pembroke (1785–1847), an English nobleman who had been ambassador to Russia from 1802 to 1807 and then secretary of state under President James K Polk (1846-1852). In 1865, Kingston Joined Schuylkill County as it was organized following the creation of Pennsylvania Territory by Congress under the Kansas-Nebraska Act. In 1881, Kingston's population numbered 1,953 when it lost its borough status; however its ZIP code remained 72335 until 1988 when it became 97236 with a new name - Kingston Borough
