The Coast Guard Station Kingston, located in the heart of the city, was founded on December 12, 1903. The station was originally known as the Kingston Dock and Wharf. It served as a stop for vessels coming into and leaving the port of Kingston. In 1921, it became a radio station and began broadcasting from its current location. In 1951, it became part of the Pennsylvania State Police. On May 8, 1976, the station was transferred to the City of Kingston Parks and Recreation Department under an agreement between both entities. Since its founding, Coast Guard Station Kingston has been responsible for providing law enforcement services to residents in Kingston as well as helping to maintain traffic flow through downtown during peak hours. The station also provides access to resources such as firefighting and rescue helicopters; emergency medical service; boat navigation; fishing; and boating education classes. The Station is home to many different types of boats including patrol boats, commercial Vessels, Launch Vehicles (such as lifeboats), Harbor Patrol Ships (HMS's) & Shore Patrol Troopers (SP's), EPOCH-1A Rescue Helicopter, Lifeboat Squadron 2 (L2) & Lighthouse Squadron 1 (L1). Additionally there are many EOE Aircraft available for use by members of the public with privileges restricted only to Coast Guardsmen

Kingston was founded in 1799 by Miles Ford and his family as a trading post on the abandoned Susquehanna River. The first store and post office were established in 1800. In 1809, Kingston became an incorporated town and has since grown to become one of the most populous communities in Monongalia County. The economy of Kingston depends primarily upon agriculture, manufacturing, and retail trade. The history of Kingston began with its founding as a trading post on the abandoned Susquehanna River by Miles Ford and his family. For over two centuries, this community has been an important center for commerce and industry in Monongalia County. Today, Kingston remains an active community with many businesses operating within its limits. Some notable local businesses include: First National Bank (founded 1888), PPG Industries (founded 1959), Mountaineer Paper Company (established 1903), Western Union Telegraph Company (founded 1865), United States Steel Corporation (formed 1921), American Paper mill (established 1951), Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company (formed 1928). In 1809, Kingston became an incorporated town when it joined what was then known as Cumberland County under the jurisdiction of Duquesne University. At that time, it was one of only a few townships in Monongalia County that had not yet been annexed by nearby Pittsburgh due to its small size and lack of commercial opportunities outside its borders. However, over time Kingston’s population grew rapidly due to both natural growth within its boundaries as well as contributions from local residents who chose to move to Lancaster or other larger communities during this period of growth. By 1870, there were more than 2,000 people living in Kingston proper while another 1,500 people lived within commuting distance across three adjacent rural villages: New Kensington-Easton-Mifflinburg; West Mifflinburg; and White Oak Township east of Easton Village proper which formed the core village until 1920 when all these settlements were combined into one single municipality known today as Monongahela Township
Kingston was founded in 1714 by William Penn. The town is named for the Duke of Kingston, a royal governor in Pennsylvania during the early 18th century. The first settler in what is now Kingston was John Lamb, who arrived in 1714. In 1739, George Washington and his men began their trek from Philadelphia to Valley Forge through what is now Kingston. They stopped at Lamb's Tavern on the way and drank there before continuing on their journey.
