Johnstown is a small town in the Susquehanna Valley of Pennsylvania that was founded in 1829. The population was 9,692 at the 2010 census. Johnstown was named for John Richardson, one of Pennsylvania's first signers of the United States Constitution. In 1834, a devastating fire destroyed much of downtown Johnstown and made it difficult for residents to continue living there. However, within a few years, new businesses had replaced the old structures and downtown became once again a vibrant community with businesses and services available to everyone. In 1938, an annex was added to Johnstown which increased its population by over 20%. Today, Johnstown remains a thriving community with easy access to education and shopping opportunities as well as employment opportunities in many industries.
