Navy deployment gift history in Indiana, Pennsylvania began with the U.S. Navy's establishment of a Naval Base at Indianapolis in 1814. The base was later renamed Naval Air Station Indianapolis (NAVSIP) and served as the homeport for the United States Fleet Air Arm from 1933 to 1946. During World War II, NASIP also functioned as a training ground for both American and Japanese fighter planes. In 1951, NASIP was decommissioned and integrated into the newly created Naval Air Warfare Center (NAWC) at Patuxent River Arsenal, Maryland. NAVC provides operational support to Fleet Marine Force units across America and is responsible for providing naval aviation services to joint forces afloat and ashore. In 2006, NAVC relocated from Miami Beach, Florida to Newport News, Virginia after more than 50 years located on two separate campuses. The USS Indianapolis (CA-3) was a naval vessel that served in the United States Navy from 1918 to 1945. She was decommissioned on 9 May 1945 and delivered to the Indiana Naval Militia as part of the National Defense Reserve Fleet. On 14 October 1947, she was redesignated CG-2S and placed into service with the Pennsylvania Navy as USS Monmouth (CG-2S). She served in that state until being sold to Mexican fishermen on 26 November 1957.

In 1815, Congress created a new territory comprising what are now western Michigan and parts of Ohio andIndiana: this was known as West Virginia Territory. On March 1, 1816, after years of wrangling over recognition for these new territories by each state's legislatures—a process known as "border adjustment" or "equal representation"—West Virginia became an integral part of Indiana via its annexation into that state on February 14th following a vote by the General Assembly. At this time, most of what is now southern Michigan had not yet been annexed; however, because it lay within Indiana's borders at that point (westward beyond anything west of Fort Wayne), Michigan was treated as part of Indiana until it was admitted into stateshood as well in 1827. The first U.S census conducted in 1790 enumerated 511 people living within present-day boundaries of central Indiana (excluding unincorporated areas), including all but two individuals living inside present-day Kentucky;[2] no such count has been published since then! This initial population growth rate occurred due largely to military recruiting missions undertaken during George Washington's presidency (1789-97) – many soldiers lived and worked near Fort Wayne – followed by agricultural development led by planter families who brought their own workers with them wherever they moved.[3][4] By 1800–1800*, only about one-third of present day Posey County remained Indian free;[5] much later white settlement would result primarily from land purchases or forced migration from Native American tribes forcibly removed from their lands through warfare or treaties
