Hermitage is located in Hermitage Township, in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It is a small town of about 5,000 residents and it is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The history of the town begins with settlers who first arrived there in 1792. At that time, it was part of the Northwest Territory. In 1815, it became a part of Allegheny County and in 1876, it was made a part of Duquesne County. The first gunsmith to be located in Hermitage was Ephraim Smith. He started his business at 328 Second Street in 1825 and he continued to operate it until his death in 1857. Then, he was succeeded by John Geddes who operated his shop from 1840 to 1865. Then came George Witherspoon who operated his shop from 1865 to 1886. Finally, Charles Hinterman ran his shop from 1886 to 1902. From 1902 until 1922, John Prentice ran the business from this location before moving down the street to 304 Market Street where he continued working until his death in 1963. then Harry Ahern took over for Prentice until 1970 when he moved out into his own business at 601 Elmwood Avenue which remains active today as Ahern Guns & Ammo Inc.. In 2001, Harry Hinterman Jr., son of John Hinterman Sr., took over operations at 601 Elmwood Avenue after their father's death Throughout its history, Hermitage has been known for its shooting galleries and clubs which offer members access to many different types of firearms including rifles (rifle shootings), shotguns ( Shotgun shootings), handguns (handguns shootings), muzzleloaders (muzzleloader shootings) and air guns (airgun shoots). Shooting has always been an important aspect of this small community and according to historian Dr.-Karl Bechtold; "The most significant event that occurred during these years [1902-2001] was probably Harry Hinterman’s decision not only to open up 601 Elmwood Ave., but also begin marketing himself as “the Gun Man”."

Hermitage is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,857 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first settler in Hermitage was John Hermitage who arrived in 1784. He and his family built a log cabin on the southeast side of Township Road No. 8 near what is now the Hermitage Municipal Airport. In 1820, James Hays erected a log cabin on land that he had purchased from George Harrison. Over time, other settlers followed suit and many homes were built in what is now Hermitage Township and adjacent unincorporated areas. In 1827, Isaac Nichols moved to Hermitage from Monroe County and became its first postmaster. In 1839-40, Samuel Morse constructed a store and office building on Main Street which served as the nucleus for what would become the present day company town of Hermitage (later spelled "Hershey"). The first school was organized in 1838 by Drs Nicholas & Ephraim Kapp with instruction taught by Mr Israel Ziegler until 1840 when it was replaced by an academy established by Rev Arent Prentice with classes starting in September 1861 under government auspices Rufus Norris settled in Hermitage around 1850 after moving from Tuscarora Township east of Pittsburgh to start a mill dynasty that would continue through much of the 19th century Norris also founded Harrisburg Academy which became one of Pennsylvania's leading private schools A mill complex was started about 1860 called "Norris' Mill" but it failed due to low profits In 1865-66 Major General Ulysses S Grant visited steel mills all over America and impressed upon Americans their need for more steel so he issued an order for 10% more steel than were available . This led to Bethlehem Steel Company being formed with major investors including Norris . The plant produced everything from railroads tracks to warships during World War II . By 1945 Bethlehem had produced almost 80% all Pennsylvania's steel while contributing $30 million annually to local economy

Hermitage is a small town located in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,577 at the 2010 census. The community is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. It is named for Nicholas-Jacques Hermitage, an Italian nobleman who lived there from 1764 to 1768 and who left behind a collection of art and manuscripts. The area that now Hermitage was first settled by French colonists in the early eighteenth century. In 18th century British settlers arrived and new land was purchased from Native Americans. By 1800, the town had about 100 residents. English settlers began arriving in increasing numbers during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, but few constructed homes or occupied land hereabouts until after Nicholas-Jacques Hermitage moved to Hermitage in 1764 from Italy to take up residence following his conversion to Christianity. In 1824 Nicholas-Jacques' grandson Emmanuel moved his family to what is now Beaver Falls and started a store there which became one of the most important businesses in the community. In 1830 Isaac Aspinwall opened a grocery store on Main Street which continued to be an important factor in economic development until it closed its doors in 1912 due to prohibitionism near then-radical Chicago gambling dens known as "sparks" Fordsville also saw steady growth during this time with several general stores opening up along Winton Road (now Second Avenue) including those owned by John Pemberton (1807-1875), Elijah Morse (1793-1872) and George Gershwin (1837-1914). A post office called Hermitage was established in 1827; it served as a stop on stagecoaches between Pittsburgh and its namesake city of Venice, California overland via Wyoming Territory territory then under Mexican rule. By 1840, however, mail riding ceased entirely because of increased travel costs associated with war raging abroad; all correspondence was now sent through Pittsburgh instead During World War II many buildings were destroyed or damaged by American bombing raids; such included: three churches - St John's Episcopal Church built 1925 by architect Floyd Kapp; Our Lady's Polish Orthodox Church Built 1915 by architect Edward Czajadesigned within two years after Poland regained independence from Russia; St Anthony Catholic Church Destroyed 1945 while still being used as an elementary school; Old Germanate School building still standing 1952 demolished due to rodents infestation vernacular architecture characterized much of 19th century rural U S towns when compared against more recent suburban styles.; four cotton warehouses built c1800 which were converted into housing beginning c1900 around this time frame including: two built by James Hargrave on Third Street west of present day Parkview Avenue north of I‑670 exit ramp leading northeast towards Scranton;; one warehouse built 1909 on Main Street east side just south of US 22 nd TurnpikeExit ramp leading southeast towards Allentown;; both warehouses burned down 1959 subsequent damage caused by arsonSee photograph accompanying this paper . Each warehouse stood approximately 8 feet high x 10 feet wide x 20 feet deep with dimensions typically similar excluding roof pitch . A single lane dirt road ran parallel across each edge forming a channel at ground level providing access only via ramps formed aboveground entrances/exit ramps ; interior walls were made predominately out of logs with plaster coating applied over these latter construction details throughout life thereby preserving them for later periods when subjected to environmental degradation . The Hermitage was a large, luxury estate on the eastern edge of Philadelphia. It was originally built by George Washington in 1751-1754 as a summer residence for himself and his wife, Martha Washington. The estate later belonged to the Livingston family and then to the Morris family. In 1828, it was purchased by James K. Polk and became his presidential home. After his death in 1901, it passed through several hands before being acquired by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission in 1912.
