Hermitage Township was organized in 1837. The township is named after John Hermitage, a Founding Father and Trustee of the University of Pennsylvania. The first settler in the township was James Fox. The township has a total area of , of which is land and is water. It borders Clearfield Township to the north, Cumberland County to the east, Lebanon County to the south, and Potter County to the west. As of 2000, there were 909 households out of which 31% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53% were married couples living together, 10% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38% were non-families. 33% of all households were made up of individuals and 11% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 3.01. In 2000, there were 132 employed residents in the township versus 97 unemployed residents (10%. As per PA law 6 sets apply). Of these jobholders, 54 are full-time workers while only 17 are part-time workers; this percentage changes depending on certain census blocks within Hermitage Township that have large concentrations (<25%). In 2006 there were 5 working families (3%) while in 2000 only 1 working family lived in any census block having an employment rate above 50%. There are also many farms that operate during agricultural production seasons but do not have employees as most people work at their home during off hours or overnight periods when they would be available for work outside their farm duties

After the war ended, Project Tiger continued to be used by the Air Force for training purposes until it was decommissioned in 1969. Today, there are still some Tiger Fighters remaining in service with various air forces all over the world. Hermitage is a town in York County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The Hermitage Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The town was named after General George Washington's estate at Mount Vernon. The first Europeans to visit the area were Dutch people in 1614 and again in 1618 when they landed on what is now known as Hermitage Island. In 1757, surveyors noted that there were "several small valleys" lying between Allegheny Mountains and Monongahela River which led them to name the entire district "Hermitage". In 1800, Congress passed an act annexing all of York and Westmoreland counties into Pennsylvania under the jurisdiction of a new state government called the General Assembly of Pennsylvania. At this time, much of what is now Hermitage Township (and parts of Blair Twp., North Huntingdon Twp., Turtle Creek Twp., Sewickley Twp.), including most of present-day Farmington Township (including unincorporated areas such as West Hempstead), still lay within York County despite being included within Pennsylvanian territory for only three days during its existence on July 9th, 1800. In 1802, following William Crawford's death at Fort Washburne near Fort Pittsburgh in what is now Lawrenceburg Junction (the site where he had been stationed since 1779), his widow offered land for sale east of their farmhouse on Perry Lane to provide interim housing for her son-in-law and future general during his military service westward towards Mexico City overland from Fort Pittsburgh throughPA into Mexico City while he served as Commander-in-Chief American Forces Under Major General Craddock's command along with other commanders who accompanied him across America's Mexican borderlands; these were later designated by President John Adams as part of The Western Reserve around Philadelphia which became home to many thousands more Americans during those years leading up to and including our Revolution! This initial offering has been authenticated by history buffs worldwide as one example among many examples where Mrs. Crawford demonstrated exceptional initiative and business acumen prior to becoming embroiled in politics Betweeen herself & then later become entangled with both political parties throughout her lifetime until her death circa 1912 due largely To anesthesia she received from Drs Jameson & Warburton while living adjacent To her late husband’s ancestral plantation home [Mount Lebanon]; however She did not sell any land subsequent To 1802?
