Hazleton is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,619 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hazleton–Allentown–Easton, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now known as Hazleton was first settled by Germans in the late 17th century. The town was named after Baron von Hantzsch, who donated land to the community in 1853. The original buildings were built around a square mile (1 km2) and included a public square and churches. In 1868, hazelnuts became an important crop in Hazleton and are still grown there today. In 1919, President Warren Harding visited Hazleton while on campaign trail in Pennsylvania. After his visit, hazelnut production increased and Hazleton became one of the leading markets for this type of product in the United States. Today, hazelnut products are produced all over the world including Germany where they are called Walnussfeigen (walnuts). Hazleton has been home to several famous people such as Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV), entertainers like Dick Clark and Jerry Lee Lewis and athletes like running back Jerome Bettis and cornerback Bryant McFadden from Oklahoma State University football team

Hazleton is a small town in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania that is the seat of Hazleton Township and was founded in 1795 by Captain John Hazlewood. The population was 7,856 at the 2000 census, making it one of the most populous towns in Delaware County. It is part of the Philadelphia–Middletown, PA-NJ Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town's namesake is Capt. John Hazlewood who settled there in 1795 and built a sawmill on the confluence of the Susquehanna River and Mill Creek. The mill became one of Hazleton's first businesses and continued to be a mainstay until 1868 when it was destroyed by fire. There have been several other businesses located in or around Hazleton since then including three banks (J F McCloy & Sons Inc., Third National Bank, Pocono Trust Company) as well as an insurance company (Pennsylvania Mutual Insurance Company). The current Canal Street Bridge crosses the Susquehanna River just west of downtown Hazleton and connects it to Reading, PA about 15 minutes away via Interstate 95. Hazleton has many events scheduled throughout its year including its annual apple festival which takes place over two days in early September; its annual Pumpkin Festival which happens on October 9th; its Independence Day Celebration which happens on July 4th; as well as various other weekend events such as its fireworks show on July 4th or 5th and its flower show on August 8th or 9th. It also has a summertime Farmers Market where local farmers sell their products from June through August each year

In the early 19th century, Hazleton was known as one of the most PROGRESSIVE towns in Pennsylvania. It became a boomtown during the late 1800s due to its booming economy and its location at the intersection of two major railroads. After World War II, Hazleton experienced declines in its economy and population. However, it has since begun to rebound with new development around the town center and new businesses opening up in recent years.
