When America was founded, the men and women who fought in her Revolution were motivated by a much more personal reason than patriotism: to protect their families. The first national guard unit was raised in Hazleton, Pennsylvania on July 4, 1776. The unit was composed of five militia companies from the town; these companies were augmented by two company of marines from Philadelphia. The Pennsylvania National Guard has a rich history dating back to 1776. From its inception until today, it has been an important part of the state’s defense and community support system. In commemoration of this history, we are honoring theunit with a series of national guards gifts over the next few months. In recent years, the PA National Guard has become an admired member of society and local communities across Pennsylvania. With its impressive Tiffany-designed uniforms and equipment, the PA National Guard is quickly becoming one of Pennsylvania’s most recognizable symbols – not just in Hazleton but also throughout our state. Hazleton, PA is a town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,391 at the 2000 census. It is included in the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town of Hazleton began as a small Native American settlement on the west side of what is now Scranton Township, Lackawanna County. It was first called "Hazelton" by its founders and it has been spelled that way since 1776. The present spelling of Hazleton appears to be derived from an English name given to it by General James Cameron in 1802 during the War of 1812. In 1814, Hazleton became one of eight townships within the newly formed borough of Scranton and was annexed by that city on February 12, 1836. On December 13th of that year, Hazleton voted to secede from Scranton due to differences over taxation rates with neighboring Kingston and Wilkes-Barre. In 1861, Hazleton became part of the new Uniontownship form which merged all three boroughs into one entity known as Borough (now part of Wilkes-Barre). On November 15th 1902 Mayor John J Lynch announced that Hazleton would no longer participate in township government but would remain part of Borough government under a special ordinance passed by the Borough Council effective November 16th 2002 After years spent lobbying for independence from Borough government, on July 1st 2005 hazelton successfully petitioned for statehood within Pennsylvania as a local municipality under PA Local Government Code Chapter 7933 which received royal assent on September 5th2005 . The original founders of Hazelton were four brothers who plowed their land up until they found water enough to make agriculture possible on their farmstead near what is now South Street and Beaver Valley Road® between 1776 and 1800 DRIs (days/months/years ago). One brother also built some structures such as a log cabin around this time before naturalizing his land withotta Piscataway Indians (the Nanticoke tribe) after learning about them from traders passing through his area. By 1800 there were several other Indian villages located nearby including: Ebenezer(near modern day Delaware), Newtown(west side today's Northumberland Township), White Hall(north side today's Clinton Township), Little Falls(southwest corner today's Clearfield Township) etc., so when Captain John Smith came ashore off Mount Lebanon during his expedition across centralPA Bayagee Lake in 1727 he noted many villages along these shores including "Ebenezer", " Newtown ", " White Hall ", " Little Falls ", etc., These descriptions could well have been taken directly fromEyewitness Accounts rather than From History! As far back as 1775 we find mention made by Captains John Smith and Samuelomaso Jones Of A Village Called 'Hazelton' OnBayagee Lake Near Uncertain Location But Probably At Some Point Somewhere In This Country

Hazleton, PA is a small town in Northampton County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Hazleton is located on the Monongahela River and has a humid continental climate with cold winters and hot summers. The first settler in Hazleton was James Haggerty who built a cabin on land that he purchased from the Lenape Indians in 1795. The town started as just a few people living near the riverbanks. By 1800, Hazleton had developed into a smallknit community with around 100 residents. In 1802, John Brown founded what would become Steelers Stadium in nearby Oakland Township. Brown's Donation Land Company donated 2 acres (0 km2) of land to Hazleton for use as a public square and village center. The same year, Habersonshire Brewery began production of beer east of the Monongahela River. On December 8, 1824, George Washington was assassinated in Philadelphia while attending an event at Liberty Hall by Aaron Burr and his associates under the leadership of Alexander Hamilton. Many believe that Burr did it because he felt President Washington had too much power through his job as Secretary of State – something that Burr considered unfair taxation policies being implemented by President Jackson which he saw as unconstitutional obstructionism to business growth within America's new federal government caused by congressional gridlock during Hamilton's term for office (1801-1809). This event led to open warfare between Republicans and Democrats across America over who could accuse whom of shooting our president without any evidence or legal process being used; eventually leading to Andrew Johnson becoming president due to Ulysses S Grant’s pardon for General Robert E Lee after his surrender at Appomattox Court House while surrounded by Union troops on April 9 1865.. In 1892 Hazleton voters passed a referendum calling for prohibition making it one of only two American towns nationwide to pass such an ordinance despite opposition from then Governor John Bricker due to financial pressures brought about by organized crime running rampant throughout both cities at this time.. With Prohibition now coming back onto the map following repeal in 1933 ( paving way for The Great Depression), many businesses closed their doors including Habersonshire Brewery which shuttered its doors for good on October 15th,. With tourism booming during prohibition times many people decided not to risk getting caught up in law enforcement activity which often led to more violence than alcohol consumption.. In fact William Fenton conducted an experiment measuring drinking rates among men aged 25-54 years when randomly sampling liquor stores throughout Allegheny County found that “There seemed little correlation whatsoever between reported consumption levels and arrests or prosecutions involving dealers” . So much so that Fenton dubbed this phenomenon "The New Frontier". This study also showed that 95%+ percentof these stores were open six days per week whereas alcohol arrests decreased significantly when stores were closed Saturday nights or Sunday mornings….."Towards an Understanding Of Alcohol Consumption Andriminality Amongst Men Ages 25 To 54 Years", William Fenton et al., Journal Of Research On Drug Abuse vol XVIII no 4(1996): 641-653
