On November 8th 1827 Main Street passing through Harrisburg reached its current location near present day State College Road where it terminated just short of mile marker 562 going eastbound or continuing past PA Turnpike mainline onto US 3 headed towards Baltimore Maryland! After 4 miles this road opens up into farmland once more coming down hard off mountainside giving access only via narrow ravines making travel difficult even for small horse teams these days let alone carts or any larger vehicle much less a car nowadays! A few weeks later on December 12th General Robert E Lee surrendered General Cornwallis' army at Saratoga Springs NY after several bloody engagements leading up to that point including one fought at Monmouth Junction NJ resulting in over 200 casualties among Regular British soldiers only some 20% killed or captured compared to American losses numbering over three thousand men dead followed closely by Hessian units totaling over two hundred killed making Saratoga Springs one bloodiest battle ever fought outside North America!!!
