In the early 1900s, the Harrisburg Air Force Base was one of the largest in the United States. It served as a training ground for fighter pilots and bombers during World War I and II. In 1948, it became an airfield used by the USAF Ninth Air Force. The airfield was closed in 1969 and replaced by Dover AFB. However, while Dover AFB may have been closed, its legacy of providing gifts to local residents remains. Many people in Harrisburg remember when they would go to Dover AFB to pick up their gift from theAAF or other organizations that were based there. These days, there is no active USAF presence in Harrisburg, but many military-themed events take place at various locations throughout the city every year honoring former service members or local heroes who have made an impact on our community. One such event is "The Pentagon Day Parade" which takes place on November 10th each year at Patriot Park in downtown Harrisburg. This parade features floats representing all branches of the military with displays of troops and aircraft from across America as well as presentations from dignitaries such as President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. There are also free concerts throughout the day outdoors starting at 11am and playing until 5pm just outside of town square!

Harrisburg is a city in southwestern Pennsylvania and the seat of Susquehanna County. The population was 27,924 at the 2010 census. It is the economic and cultural center of the Harrisburg–Carlisle–Johnstown, PA metropolitan area, which has a population of 568,723 as of 2017. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Harrisburg was by German colonists who arrived in 1757. When George Washington's forces were retreating after their defeat at Saratoga, General Howe sent his army through Susquehanna Valley to cut them off from Philadelphia and retreat southward. The Germans built a ford across the Monongahela River near present-day downtown Harrisburg to allow these retreating troops passage. This strategic location made Harrisburg an important military outpost during American independence War I (1812-1814). In 1815, Congress passed the Alien and Sedition Acts which forbid any foreigner living in this country from speaking or writing against our government without prior approval from President James K. Polk. This act caused many English-speaking immigrants to flee to America during this time period including my ancestor John Beattie who settled in what is now downtown Harrisburg in 1817. The town of Lancaster was founded on October 15, 1792 by Colonel Robert Dinwiddie and Major General AmosCARLisle while they were marching northward from Yorktown Heights under orders from George Washington to relieve British troops encamped near Gettysburg northeast of Lancaster on July 2nd that year under general John Armstrong’s command; two days later Armstrong’s force had reached Gettysburg when word came back that Washington had ordered Dinwiddie’s column not only to continue on but also cross over into Pennsylvania “to join him there with all speed possible” instead Armstrong turned around and returned home before reaching Lancaster where he reported finding “No Enemy about us”! It wasn't until 1830 when local farmers started growing corn so they could sell it back into Pennsylvania that people started referring to their new town as "Harrisburgh." By 1836, traffic through town had grown enough so a post office was established; within seven years, an academy had been built for training young men for mercantile service; streets were named after Revolutionary War generals such as Benedict Arnold ( symmetry ), Nathanael Greene (right), Alexander Hamilton (left) and John Adams (center); brick buildings began appearing throughout town; businesses opened up where banks used to be located; schools taught children trades such as shoemaking, milling flour etc.; firewood became valuable because there weren't any trees near by - people would go out into fields every day looking for wood! In 1842 local voters approved chartering the University of Pennsylvanian which first graduated students in 1861! In 1850s & 1860s almost everyone married between 19-25 & lots more kids were born too – so today we have lots of single adults too! There were few professional jobs available so most adults worked either carpentry or agriculture until WWI when manufacturing became available especially due to railroads coming through town . In 1936 UPI moved its printing presses from Rochester NY downriver (& eventually closed) & starting 1942 Hesperus Press moved here too making it one stop shop for news items going all over nation . Most everything changed during WWII with war production moving inland into surrounding counties but commerce remained largely unchanged thanks largely to some innovative business owners like Mr appreciate Pottersville PA resident Jack Fenton who developed canned goods industry
The Air Force Deployed Gift History program began in 1961 with the enactment of the National Defense Authorization Act. The NDAA created a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for military activity within the United States. In response to this new agency, the Air Force activated its own gift history program called "Airforce Wishes." This program was designed to provide an air of professionalism and continuity between USAF officers and their civilian counterparts during wartime. In 1984, President Ronald Reagan ordered that all USAF gift histories be archived and made available to the public. This order is still followed today as all USAF gift histories are now open to inspection by anyone who wishes to do so. Today, through our "Airforce Wishes" program, we continue to remember those who have served our country and make sure that they are never forgotten.
