Greensburg, Pennsylvania is a town in Greene County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 6,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia–Wilmington–Yorktown, PA-NJ-DE-MD Combined Statistical Area. Greensburg was founded in 1799 by Judge Samuel Hempstead and others as a small frontier settlement along the York River. Greene County was created on December 12, 1795 from parts of Huntingdon and Lebanon Counties. The county seat was located in Huntingdon until 1800 when it moved to Greensburg. The first courthouse was built in 1802 on Main Street and remained in use until 1806 when it burned down. A new courthouse was built in 1807 on Market Street and served until 1865 when it also burned down. The town of Greensburg became an incorporated village on July 1, 1897 under the name of East Greenville Village. On January 11, 1907, Newtown Township (renamed West Greenville Township on November 5 that same year) merged with Greensburg to form a second borough called Borough of Greensburgh which continued to exist even into the present day as an independent municipality within Greene County without any legal status within Delaware or Pennsylvania government but with its own police force and social services provided by its own municipal corporation known as "Borough of Greensburgh". On April Fool's Day 1976, during the height ofthe Pennsylvanian energy crisis due to high prices for natural gas caused by production increases at the Iranian oil fields neighboringPennsylvania Turnpike (I-95), Governor William Fenton declared that all gasoline sales within Greenecounty were free from taxation effective immediately; this action led to increased demand for gasoline throughout most of Delaware Valley while causing local businesses and residents to switch from diesel fuel sources back to gasolinepower rather than try to sell their products without paying additional taxes
When the Marine Corps was established in 1846, it had only a few hundred men. However, within less than 20 years, the Marines had grown to over 10,000 soldiers. The Corps’ first deployments were during the Mexican-American War (1848-1849). During this conflict, Marines served as part of the 1st and 2nd Regiments of Infantry. In 1855, the Corps participated in its first naval engagement when they helped guard American vessels while they transported troops across Mexico. From this experience, marines began to become familiar with maritime warfare and were called upon to take part in numerous border conflicts and actions throughout Latin America and Asia. The Korean War (1950-1953) was another significant event for the Marine Corps. After witnessingUnit 731’s attempted infiltration of South Korea through an airlift route into North Korea on July 26th 1950 – just days after their own liberation from Japan – Headquarters Marines made a determination that military intervention would be necessary to prevent further bloodshed on both sides. Accordingly, Lieutenant General John Hodge ordered all Marine divisions deployed north of the 38th parallel into action on August 25th 1950. This initial deployment was successful in achieving UN Security Council Resolution 904 which halted hostilities between North Korea and South Korea until further notice; however, casualties continued to mount as units fought their way deep into enemy territory. By September 15th 1950 – two weeks after UN forces withdrew from Koreatown – there were more than 5500 Marines dead or missing from Unit 731 alone! In 1955, President Dwight Eisenhower authorized Operation Neptune Spear which aimed to stop North Koreans believed To have been arming Chinese rebels fighting against South Korea under Kim Jong Il. On October 12th 1950 at 4:00 P.M., submarines launched torpedoes at three gatherings of suspected North Korean warships near Sinpo Island; these attacks resulted in nine ships being sunk including one Yonhap ship carrying supply cratesload of weapons supplies bound for Pyongyang; as a result of this attack by United States Navy submarines USS Mayflower (AGI-5) and USS Scorpion (AGI-6), Kim Jong Il ordered his navy commander Admiral Yi Sun Seok not only to cease operations against South Koreans but also arms shipments destined for Taiwan contrary to UN resolutions calling for such activity! For his part in orchestrating Neptune SpearOperation Commander Ulysses S Grant later said he “would rather have lost my head than let him live” The operation resulted in approximately 450 dead Americans along with thousands injured or captured by Kim’s forces!
