The town of Greensburg was created on November 3, 1799 by order of General George Washington from parts of what are now Allegheny and Westmoreland counties. At that time it was known as Green Township. On December 10, 1801, Green Township was divided into two townships: Greenville and White Sands. In 1853 White Sands became part of Greensburg while Greenville remained a separate municipality. Greensburg is located at (40.857838, -75.445694). As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 7,491 people residing in the town center including 1,381 households and 914 families residing within the unincorporated areas surrounding the town limits which included portions of Beaver Falls Borough and Downingtown Township. The population density was 2,090 people per square mile (780/km²). There were 1,924 housing units at an average density of 810 per square mile (295/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 96% White non-Hispanic; 0% African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; <0% Pacific Islander; 2% from other races; and 2% from two or more races.[3] Hispanic or Latino residents made up 3%. Of those who identified themselves as Hispanic or Latino*, 62%, lived in Pittsburgh metropolitan statistical area* ; 31%, lived in Allentown- Reading- Scranton metropolitan area* ; 5%, lived in Erie County* . * Includes all Mexican nationals living beyond Mexico’s borders
