The name "Franklin" originated from Benjamin Franklin's birthplace in Scotland. He became an American hero for his work in the Second Continental Congress and for his role as Founding Father of the United States. They were led by Colonel George Washington and built a cabin here called White House Ford. The area that now makes up Franklin Park was initially part of Clearfield Township but was annexed by Monroe Township on March 25, 1825.
