Ephrata, Pennsylvania is home to the oldest continuously operating coffee shop in the United States. The first coffee shop opened in 1824 in what is now known as the Market Place. The store was located on Main Street and served a variety of refreshments including Coffee and Tea. In 1875, John Pemberton opened his own café on Walnut Street which became known as “Pemberton’s Coffee House”. In 1895, Josephine Keller opened her own coffee house on Third Avenue in Ephrata which continued to serve drinks until Prohibition began in 1920. After prohibition, many small businesses closed down due to lack of business opportunities or competition from larger businesses that had access to more supplies of caffeine. However, one business that has continued operations for over 200 years is Mr. K's Cafe which is located inside the old post office on First Avenue in Ephrata. Mr. K's Cafe serves breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week with items such as pancakes, waffles, eggs benedict, sandwiches and salads made fresh daily by the owners themselves.
Ephrata is a town in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,909 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first people to settle in Ephrata were the Potters and their families who arrived from Connecticut in 1798. They built a small log cabin on the banks of the Monongahela River. In 1819, General John Forbes decided to cede all of Huntingdon County to Pennsylvania as part of his Treaty of Paris after the War of 1812. The new state included land that lay east and south of Philadelphia including what is now Ephrata Township and much of Potter Township including present-day Ephrata Village. The first school was built in 1825 and was called "Plymouth Academy." In 1828, a subscription mill was built which became known as "Emmons Mill." The village began to receive mail from outside of Pennsylvania and eventually had its own post office with its own ZIP code (27604). In 1864, when Huntingdon County became part of Pennsylvanian Statehood, it also included parts of Delaware County so named for General George Washington's daughter by marriage to Lord Cornwallis - because those areas were westward extension from Philadelphia along the Susquehanna River valley floor (now Lancaster County) whereupon Beaver Valley had been founded about 1800 by settlers coming downriver from Lancaster County via Wyoming Valley (now Westmoreland County). It should be noted that these early settlers were farmers rather than planters; there are few if any residences still extant within Beaver Valley today! In 1886 when Robert Stephenson donated 100 acres (40 hectares) near present-day Uniontown for educational purposes only – not for residential use – this set off a controversy over who would get control over what would become Ephrata. A committee appointed by Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt determined that Uniontown School District would have exclusive jurisdiction over development within its boundaries; however, private individuals or groups soon erected homes around this unusual gift which spanned three blocks! The decision created both an opportunity and an obstacle: since no one wanted access either to education or housing developments restricted solely to Uniontown School District propertyholders – developers responded with ingenuity in order to gain access even though they knew very well that exclusive rights could never last long without open competition! Consequently, development proceeded at a furious pace despite objections from many residents; one result was that original streets between buildings gradually disappeared while adjoining parcels became playgrounds, golf courses etcetera! By 1925 there were more homes than schools amid rapid growth in population due largely to immigration; however enrollment at Uniontown remained high throughout this period until 1959 when it closed due again to lack Of Room! Today some remnants remain such as an old high school building constructed during World War II beside some modern apartments on Route 611 just north-west thereof

Ephrata, Pennsylvania is a town in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 7,856 at the 2010 census. It is included in the Reading, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Ephrata is known for its Presbyterian and Lutheran churches as well as its agricultural production and cranberry berry industry. The first European to visit this area was Giovanni da Verrazzano on July 14th 1524 when he sailed up the Susquehanna River from New York City with his fleet of twenty-six ships. He noted "a great and beautiful country" before turning back due to bad weather conditions near the mouth of the river. Pennsylvania was admitted to the United States on December 12th 1776 as part of the Treaty of Paris following America's War for Independence from Great Britain. The town of Ephrata was founded by Captain John Forbes who named it after his patroon (father) Ebenezer Farnsworth of Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. A post office called Farnsworthville was established in 1853, but it ceased operations in 1857 because there were already three towns named Farnsworth in Lancaster County! In 1881 Census data reported that Ephrata had a population of 514 out of a total population for Lancaster County of 2,008! This growth can be partially attributed to two nearby railroads -the Erie Railroad which connected Lancaster with Buffalo and Rochester downstate through Huntingdon Valley; andthe Reading Railroad which connected Philadelphia with Reading (now Allentown) southward along Route 21 through Berkshires into Bucks COUNTY! As new industries moved into this area such as agriculture, textile manufacturing or shoe manufacturing during World War II many homes were built along railroad lines becoming known as "railroad towns". As these industries tapered off or left for other areas economic development slowed or stopped entirely leaving many residents without jobs or housing choice even though they may have resided within walking distance of one if not more businesses! Today much like then much like today's community outreach programs are important aspects to maintaining stability while promoting entrepreneurship opportunities within this ever-changing economy!
Ephrata is a borough in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania, located in Chester County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 9,912. The name Ephrata comes from an ancient Philistine settlement on what is now called Township Line Road (U.S. Route 219), east of Fairfield and north of Chambersburg. The first permanent settler in what is now Ephrata was Nicholas Delavan, who arrived in 1753 and established himself near the present-day intersection of West Avenue and Lancaster Boulevard. By 1800, there were twenty families living in the area that would become Ephrata Township: eleven farmers and eight traders/manufacturers. In 1810, John Pomeroy sold his interest in a team of horses to Samuel Burt for $200; this purchase made possible the opening of Easton's Mills which became one of the largest textile mills outside Philadelphia or Baltimore at that time. In 1836, George Wager organized a group of men to build a railroads through central Pennsylvania; this effort led to the founding of Lackawanna Railroad Company by Wager and others on November 3, 1836 northwest of Shamokin along modern day routes PA 248 & 283 southwest of Hazleton
