The Emmaus National Guard was organized on November 17, 1903, by Captain Charles W. Draper of the Pennsylvania National Guard. The unit was known as the “Mighty Eighth Infantry Regiment” and served in World War I as part of the 1st Brigade, 9th Division of the United States Expeditionary Forces. After the war, the regiment became known as Company D, 7th Battalion (1892-1903), Emmaus Volunteer Fire Department (1910-1920) and Emmaus Riflemen (1920-1939). In 1939, Company D was disbanded and its members were reorganized into three companies: A (1940), B (1941) and C (1945). In 1947, all companies were redesignated as battalions and continued to serve under battalion command until 1952 when they were reassigned to brigade command. From 1968 to 1969, these battalions were redesignated divisions and then brigades before finally being reorganized into a single national guard unit on October 1, 1972. Today, Emmaus' National Guard is composed of over 2200 military reservists from across Pennsylvania who are called to arms by state governors each year in support of federal responsibilities such as homeland security or disaster relief. The unit's history spans more than 125 years and includes many accomplishments such as being one of only two units in Westmoreland County to be recipients of a George Washington Award for excellence in community service; having been recipient of multiple Presidential Unit Citations; providing security for dozens of events throughout central PA during both political campaigns; providing protection at major sporting events including the Olympics; participating in countless other patriotic activities throughout the year. These days the Emmaus National Guard is an essential part of our local community and provides invaluable services such as law enforcement assistance during special events or civil unrest while also maintaining a presence in our town through drill drills along with numerous parades annually.

The Emmaus National Guard Association was founded on November 3, 1909 as the Pennsylvania National Guard Association. The organization became a national guard unit on September 17, 1916 when it was organized as Company F of the 2nd Battalion, 13th Regiment, Pennsylvania National Guard. On July 1, 1920 the company became Company G and was redesignated as Company H of the 14th Regiment, Pennsylvania National Guard on October 8, 1920. The company served in World War II with distinction and received awards for bravery such as the Distinguished Service Cross (DSC) and Bronze Star Medal. After the war ended the regiment returned home to serve again until its abolition on February 15, 1946. The Emmaus Armory also housed some of America's first troops - New York Rangers from 1899-1901 and Boston Celtics player Tommy Heinsohn from 1942-1945 - who were stationed here during World War II before being demobilized at Camp Butler in Massachusetts after that conflict ended.

In 1907, Emmaus became an independent city and retains its own charter as well as a mayor and City Council. The history of Emmaus began with Reverend James Fenton who founded the first Methodist church in what is now Emmaus on December 11th, 1849. Reverend Fenton named his new congregation "the Emmanuel Chapel" after one of his Yeshua Messiah's parables which he had heard while serving as an evangelist in Liverpool, England. Mr. Fenton soon realized that this small town would not be able to accommodate every member of his church so he decided to build himself a large house on Third Street to serve as both an office and living quarters for members of the community. In addition to housing members of the church, Mr. Fenton donated land to make sure that all residents could attend religious services without having to leave their homes. In 1907, Emmaus became an independent city and retained its own charter as well as a Mayor (George Aiken) and City Council (Wesley Haskins). With this newfound independence came new opportunities including developing industries such as paper manufacturing and automobiles; these businesses thrived until the early 1970s when they were taken over by other companies within Butler County which devastated the local economy. Even today, many people maintain ties with their roots in Emmaus through various forms of faith including attending services at The Emmanuel Chapel or participating in various community projects such as building playgrounds or burying historical markers around town

The United States National Guard is a militia force that serves in the United States government. The National Guard was activated on September 14, 1792 during the First Barbary War. The Militia Act of 1795 made it an independent military force and authorized its purchase of arms and ammunition. On July 30, 1800, President George Washington signed into law the Organic Act of 1801 which created a national guard system under the Department of War. The first regiment to be raised in America was the 2nd Rhode Island Regiment on December 12th, 1800. In 1802 the 1st New York Regiment was raised and served with distinction during Queen Anaconda's Invasion of Haiti. In 1861, after Confederate forces attacked Fort Sumter in South Carolina, Congress passed legislation authorizing military service by men from all sections of the Union until such time as slavery was abolished nationwide. As part of this program, resident male citizens aged eighteen or older could become soldiers if they had two years' service in any branch of the Union Army or Navy (not just infantry). This act led to many Southerners enlisting their friends and family members instead of joining their local militias when hostilities began anew over six months later. Both Confederate General Robert E Lee and Northern General Ulysses S Grant attempted to march southward through Virginia towards Richmond using guerrilla warfare tactics against numerically superior Federal forces but were thwarted each time by well-coordinated Federal units operating under General Winfield Scott’s overall command at Petersburg Peninsula; these operations are collectively known as “theArmy Without End." Because so few generals were available to pursue both sides simultaneously throughout most of Virginia—and because Federals possessed artillery superiority—the battle resulted in attrition-laden strategic stalemate lasting until May 1865 when Union Major General John Pope captured Petersburg without fighting; thus ended one phase (of three) in what has come to be called "The Great Civil War." American troops fought much harder than Confederates did for control over parts of both states--but even American forces eventually lost men due primarily to disease (a particularly virulent scourge among armies at war), loss from accidents (including Desert Storm’s ongoing destruction), wounds received while serving abroad (especially those suffered near Cairo during World War I), combat fatigue brought about by years spent garrisoning miles-long garrisons at home behind wire fences/ walls manned day and night surrounded by an ever watchful civilian population anxious about potential violence erupting outside their gates--plus other problems endemic to army life during peacetime: high rates cf desertion; low rates cf veteran suicides crises.; widespread use ol mind-altering drugs like cocaine & amphetamines which had become pervasive within armies post-World War II
