Emmaus is a small town in Potter County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Emmaus is part of the Johnstown–Allegheny Valley Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Emmaus were the Potters, who began farming in 1795. In 1827, James Weaver bought land in present-day Emmaus and built a home there named Weaver House. He also founded another family home there called the Weavers' Home for Epiphany (now known as Stinson's Episcopal Church). In 1875, three brothers from nearby Wilkes-Barre started a flour mill on the South Branch of the Susquehanna River in what is now Emmaus. They became known as "the Three Bears." The mill continued operating until it was destroyed by fire on November 15, 1944. Today, there are few if any businesses that survive directly off of flour production; instead, most businesses around town are related to agricultural sales or services. However, some residents still farm or work in those industries; one resident has even opened a restaurant that specializes exclusively in Polish cuisine! One of local attractions is Saturday morning market shopping—a tradition dating back to when farmers would bring their produce to town during winter weather conditions and sell it fresh throughout the day at various locations around town. As well as local vendors selling arts and crafts along with farm products and groceries., other activities popular among locals include dances held at Community Hall every Fourth Saturday of each month (lineups vary), playing rock band music at White Sands Park during summer weekends (!), swimming/bathing at Spring Township Lake every Memorial Day weekend (which includes fireworks!), snowmobiling on December 16th & 17th annually (which includes an event with food trucks) - all without prior notice!

Emmaus, Pennsylvania is a small town in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,933 at the 2010 census. Emmaus is located on the Susquehanna River and is about 20 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first settlers to Emmaus were George Washington and his family who arrived there in 1795 from Potomac Township in Virginia. They built a log cabin on a bluff overlooking the Susquehanna River. George Washington's grandson, John Washington (1785-1836), also lived in Emmaus for many years after moving from nearby Georgetown with his parents and siblings to farm near what is now Conshohocken Township. In 1802, JohnWashington's son James Washington moved to Emmaus from Greencastle, Indiana along with his wife Mary Liverpool and their three children: James Jr., Nancy and Jonathan (later Abraham). JamesWashington opened a store at 5th Street and Market Place which became one of the most successful stores in central Erie County until it closed around 1830. In 1827, Isaac Brockman bought land adjacent to what is now Elmira Road between 4th Street and 5th Street in what would become Emmaus after selling parcels he had purchased east of Greencastle on Highlanders Creek.. He began construction of a subscription Episcopal church which was consecrated on July 6, 1828 by Bishop Anthony Welsh as St. Andrew's Episcopal Church within what would become Emmaus Township.. After serving as pastor for several years he sold the property to Elijah Hunt who founded Hunt Brothers Emporium store at 1234 Elmira Rd.. This store continued operating until 1959 when it merged with Penn'Saver supercenter next door to give rise to current IKEA location at 570 Elmira Rd.. In 1836, Quaker minister Ebenezer Scudder came to America from England with his wife Sarah Scudder and six children along with their dog Samson; they settled near present day Bethlehem Steel Works whereScudder preached for two years before establishing an academy that taught Reading/ writing/math skills among other things; this school eventually became known as Easton Academy where Ebenezer Scudder died in 1840 aged 83 years old; Sarah Scudder continued teaching until her death in 1865 aged 74 years old.) During World War II many people worked at Bethlehem Steel Works including war workers' families such as those mentioned earlier who resided primarily onMarket Place Road above 7thStreet where steel was cut into shape ready for export; marketplace road was renamed "Emmaus Boulevard" following WW2 when market place business relocated south across Allegheny Avenue towards downtown Pittsburgh while original market place site became home of Allegheny Valley mall .)
