Emmaus, Pennsylvania is a small town in the US state of Pennsylvania. It is located on the Susquehanna River and extends into Maryland. The population was 7,651 at the 2010 census. Emmaus is included within the Emmaus Township school district. The township was organized in 1868, when it was split off from Huntingdon Township. The first settler in what is now Emmaus was George Weigel. He built his home on the banks of the Susquehanna River and named it Weigel's Landing after himself and his brother-in-law, Isaac Whitehead. In 1870, John Pyle established a tannery along with his son Joseph and their families until 1876 when they sold their land to Samuel Whitehead who also founded White Hall School near present day Emmaus PA In 1903, John Fenton erected a frame toll house above Big Creek for $1 per carload of goods transported over the creek bed between Huntingdon and Emmitsburg Roads (now Ulysses Road). This structure served as an early gatekeeper for those entering or leaving Emmaus Township from other townships or counties in southwestern Pennsylvania. The toll house still stands today as part of Route 248 in neighboring Lancaster County . In 1907, William Hightower donated three acres (1 ha) of forested land east of village to be used as a public park that would eventually include several thousand trees . A playground has been built on this parcel since 1994 . After World War II , many residents left for various reasons including jobs available outside of area; however, many residents remain active in local affairs such as volunteering at local schools and organizations

Emmaus, Pennsylvania is a town in Juniata County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Emmaus is the only incorporated town in Juniata County. It was founded by German colonists in 1795 and named for Emmanuel of Paris. The first post office was established in 1812. In 1907, Emmaus became a borough of Juniata County. Incorporated as a borough on March 20, 1907, it ceded its municipal power to Emmaus on November 10, 1917. On December 12, 1928, Emmaus passed an ordinance establishing the present-day Borough of Emmaus as an independent municipality with full powers to levy taxes and make decisions without Borough Council interference. The history of Emmaus begins with early Germansvelt colonists who arrived in 1795 from Bavaria and Germany via Philadelphia and Danville (now Allentown). One group of these pioneers were led by Johann Georg Schneidermeyer who settled on a tract of land east of what is now Elmira Township including what is now parts of Juniata and Lancaster counties. In 1796 the area was marked out for granted land to settlers under the terms of Pennsylvania's "General Warrant" law which allowed European Americans such as Schneidermeyer to purchase up to 640 acres (248 hectares) per family or individual subject to specific restrictions including that no more than 40 acres (16 hectares) could be planted within five years; any excess acreage would be sold off or developer paid back over time according to the original grant amount plus interest at 8%. On October 14th., 1796 when Johann Georg Schneidermeyer received his patent (#761), he had already erected agricultural buildings inside what are today known as Center Park Cemetery & Lutheran Church which served as his home until his death in 1802 at age 72 years old after spending 45 years farming there - one year earlier than anyone else within Municipality boundaries! This indicates that even before incorporation into Municipal government - from 1795-1828 - there existed considerable German settler activity along Tioga Avenue & Elmira Road near today's Old Market Square! When SouthJunior Township was organized on February 3rd., 1800 under Act 7 Chapter 11 PA 178 (3rd Session), all lands eastward extending into Bradford Township were annexed into SouthJunior township effective March 15th., 1800 pursuant to Proclamation Order #5 issued by George Washington dated September 16th., 1800 – thus making much needed room available for those growth areas northward along Tioga Ave! What we see today located just south Of Main Street between Elmira Rd & Spring St NW is actually property once belonging To Sheffield Iron Works Company prior thereto mentioned! Additionally according’sTownship Ordinance No 2 published January 13th,, 1801 – all lots extending Northward from Tioga Ave toward Bethlehem Landing would thenceforth become part Of SouthJunior Township proper if not sold & conveyed prior thereto!!! In reaction To this opening up new territory residents began moving away from their original homes situated within SouthJunior Township towards what are now Knowlesburg/Morningside Heights section(s) closer to downtown Philadelphia!! Pioneer David Wiegand wrote about this phenomenon some twenty years later when he penned an article entitled “SouthJunior Tract: An Historical Sketch” appearing in The Reviewer magazine Vol XVIII No 1 Winter 1899 pp 93-101 !!!
