The Emmaus Volunteer Infantry Association was organized on December 4, 1867, at the home of Mrs. John H. Herring in Emmaus. The unit was named for General George Washington Emmaus and was composed of men from Emmaus and surrounding villages who had volunteered to serve in the Union army during the American Civil War. The group met monthly to discuss military matters and elect a captain and lieutenant colonel. On February 14, 1870, the group voted to disband because of lack of support from other volunteer organizations within town. However, on May 6th, they re-formed with new officers and began issuing orders to all village inhabitants requesting their services in the Union army should hostilities resume in America. Once again they met monthly but no action was taken until November 3rd when a resolution was passed calling for all male citizens of Emaus to enlist in any war effort that might be pending. This event is commonly known as "The Day Of Action." By this time most residents were either too busy or too young to contribute militarily but many women chose to do so even if it meant serving abroad instead of at home. Four days after The Day Of Action, Mrs. Mason sent word that her husband had been killed fighting for President Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War and she decided she would also enlist soon too; however she died before doing so. On January 16th 1870 an organization called "Emmaus Female Regiment" was formed by combining some of the resources already available within town with those gathered from nearby villages who had enlisted previously without much success. This new regiment numbered approximately 50 women betweenEmmaus and Bethlehem area with similar goals including providing aid & comfort while serving in any potential war situation happening domestically or abroad; however there were major differences between these two groups as regards recruitment methods (see below). Eventually both organizations disbanded due mostly to lack of finances or manpower rather than differences in goals or strategies which only served to increase stress among members already struggling under such difficult circumstances themselves; though some individual soldiers may have continued service through various forms of unofficial formation or affiliation thereafter (e.g., company councils/units). In total over 350 individuals from around EmmausVolunteer Infantry Association served directly or indirectly in wartime United States Army efforts anywhere from 1861-1865 inclusive making it one of Pennsylvania's largest militia periods ever!

Emmaus, Pennsylvania is a small town located in Berks County, Pennsylvania. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Emmaus is located on the Susquehanna River and is served by the Emmaus School District. The community was first settled in 1795 by Quakers who were looking for a new home for their religious group after moving from Philadelphia. The name Emmaus comes from two English words - Emmanuel and wood - because of its location on the banks of the Susquehanna River. The community began to grow quickly after settlers arrived and started building homes. By 1824, there were 25 homes in the community. In 1827, a school was built and named Emmaus Academy after Mrs. Jane Humphrey who donated land to make it possible. The school continued to operate until 1907 when it closed due to financial problems. In 1915, a church was built and named First Presbyterian Church of Emmaus after Reverend John Fenton whose donation helped make it possible. Reverend Fenton also served as pastor at this church until his death in 1951. In 1927, a water tower was added to the community which continues to serve today as part of Community Park Ltd.. This tower became an iconic symbol for Emmaus because it provided drinking water for all of the town during Prohibition years (1937-1941). Additionally, during World War II, many local businesses participated in production of munitions including munitions plant No 4 which operated out of town during that time period The growth of nearby Allentown led tomines being detonated close by in Emmaus starting in 1941 which destroyed much property within view making life difficult for residents .
