In 1814, a group of German farmers and adventurers set out from Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania to find new land in what is now West Virginia. They founded the town of Wheeling on the Allegheny River. The town was founded in 1798 by Major John Armstrong and his wife Susannah Thomson Armstrong as a stop on their journey from Lancaster to Westmoreland County. The original post office was established in 1815 and was called "Armstrongstown." In 1821-22, the name of the town was changed to "Elizabethtown" in honor of Queen Elizabeth II of England who had recently become King George IV's consort. The community has been around since 1798 and many of its earliest settlers were veterans of the American Revolution who fought for independence from Great Britain. After America's victory over Great Britain in the Revolutionary War, many new immigrants started moving into Elizabethtown seeking new opportunities and growth. By 1800, there were about 100 people living in Elizabethtown. commerce soon followed as settlers started trading goods with surrounding counties includingWestmoreland and Allegheny. In 1821-22, when York Township began to form out of Butler County (an event that will be remembered most notably for James Buchanan becoming President), parts of what would become Elizabethtown were included within York Township but continued under their own governance because they felt it best suited their needs as a small farming community with few commercial interests other than farming themselves. laceberry picking became an important part of village life during this time so much so that one local legend says “the pickers went to bed at night not caring whether laceberries grew or not”; however laceberry bushes continue to grow today within the confines of the village boundaries just outside its limits residential areas due to climate conditions which provide optimal conditions for raspberry production each year! One can still find evidence along Route 11th Street where early pioneers left caches OF Raspberries while traveling down that road each season back then! Today those same roadside puddles remain testament to how important raspberry harvesting once been within this small town!

Elizabethtown is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Elizabethtown was established in 1794 as a post-office on the Susquehanna River and became an incorporated village in 1838. In 1907, it merged with nearby Monroeville to form the larger municipality of Elizabethtown-Monroeville. In 1794, James Logan founded what would become Elizabethtown after Purchase Land had been awarded to him by George Washington for his service during the American Revolution. Logan's initial land holdings were along the Susquehanna River and included present day Elizabethtown, Monroeville (later renamed Monroeville), Northumberland Township (now North Pennsylvanian), and parts of Westmoreland Township (now Luzerne County). These land grants were based on Logan's claim that he had travelled through this region on horseback from Canada to York County in support of the Patriots during the revolution. Logan arrived in America in 1795 and soon set up shop near what is now known as Quarry Road east of present day Elizabethtown limits. At first loggers used long poles to remove trees from their logs which they then took back out onto their property where they reused them or cut down new trees and built a cabin using salvaged lumber from other projects around town such as Fort Pitts synagogues and meetinghouses located along Cumberland Street between Second Avenue north and Third Avenue south when those buildings were not destroyed during World War II by air raids like so many others throughout northeastern Pennsylvania! While James Logan began developing his lands into what would become today'sElizabethtown, William Drummond began construction on what would become Monroeville about two miles northeast of present day Elizabethtown limits on more than three acres grant given by George Washington to John Forbes which included current day Northumberland Township including all but modern Elizabethton Heights within its bounds! The first settler at Monroeville was James Aiken who arrived about 1800 from Scotland via Maryland under contract with Surveyor General David Thompson! Aiken later married Sarah Cuthbert who also came over aboard ship "The Mayflower" alongside her husband Samuel Cuthbert (the future founder of Muhlenberg University) – both passengers disembarking at Plymouth Rock en route back home across New England!
