Easton, Pennsylvania is a town in the United States. It is located in Delaware County, on the east side of the Schuylkill River. The population was 12,584 at the 2010 census. Easton is one of five townships in Delaware County and its name comes from English settlers who named it for their ancestor John Easton. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Easton were Dutch colonists who founded a trading post there in 1668. The area that would become Easton was part of Lancaster County until 1783 when it became part of Pennsylvania as a result of the Treaty of Paris following the American Revolution. In 1801, Easton incorporated as a borough; it reverted to borough status in 1902. In 1814, during the War of 1812, skirmishes took place between United States and British forces near present-day Easton Heights on the north side of Schuylkill River. One American soldier was killed and three captured by British troops; these events are known as Battle Hill oratelle (now known as Olde Towne). After years of debate over whether or not to build an railroad through what is now downtown EastON, voters finally approved construction on September 9th, 1911 by narrow margin with only 36% against while 58% supported the project because they saw it as necessary for commerce and growth throughout the area! At its inauguration day just over two decades later on October 1st 1911 tracks had been built from west to east across Center Street bridgeading into downtown where passenger cars stopped at both ends! According to popular legend there once stood atop an old mill pond just northeast from today’s intersection of Main Street & Center Streets - this pond has long since been filled in making way for new development - but according to oral histories many residents remember seeing large pieces OF old mill machinery still perched atop nearby hills providing percussion for daily life back then! On November 15th 1965 Mayor James Purdy dedicated Oneonta Road Viaduct which links both Reading Township & Dover Township together forming much needed transportation infrastructure within our community during those dark days leading up to/during The Vietnam War !! Another milestone occurred on July 21st 1971 when gasoline service began flowing through town’s newly constructed pipeline system giving us our very own pre-eminent “GAS STATION” !! Today we proudly continue that legacy with ongoing pump out services during winter months

Easton is a small town in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, located in Northumberland County. The population was 7,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The town site was surveyed by George Washington in 1792 and named for John Easton, an Englishman who had come to America in 1768 as a refugee from London. A post office called Easton was established in 1814, and became a borough in 1876. In 1907, it merged with the adjacent borough of Westmoreland to form the new city of Easton. The name "Easton" first appeared on maps dating back to 1792; however, it was not until 1876 that the community received its present name. The history of Easton began with two families who settled there around 1800: the Metzgers and Johnsons. The Metzgers were born near Philadelphia and moved westward when they learned that land grants were available for purchase along their current route through PA (the Susquehanna River valley). They arrived just before President George Washington's detachment under General John Forbes traveled this way during his Third Continental Congress tour in 1794-95. Amongst these men were United States Senator William Pitts (1775-1824), congressman James Shepley (1780-1847), Surveyor General Nicholas sketsell (1800-1872), surveyor Ebenezer Sprague (1786-1862), Captain Jonathan Edwards (1793-1867) – all residents or natives of what is now eastONlyPennsylvania After surveying much of western PA including parts now anthonystown & westgate Township including what is now easternQuarter Township & most of today's Centre Township - George Washington named 2 townships after himself - Easton & Westmoreland Townships took effect July 1st 1814 - settlers came overlanders from England looking for land grant opportunities hereabouts Aftermath of War Between Great Britain and America resulted in British troops being quartered at Fort Pitt on our side OF PA & also many Tories being brought over here so we needed some names too! 3 days later USGS Topo map shows new townsite as "Eastonia" 4 miles due southwest from original spot - so we added "Pittsburgh" to name
