The village of Dunmore and the township of Dunmore are both located in rural Fayette County. The first settler in what would become Dunmore was Nicholas Nevin on November 2, 1792. In 1812, Township No. 2 was organized from parts of Township No. 1 east of the Susquehanna River and included lands now within the boroughs of Squirrel Hill and Easton as well as much of today's Dunmore Village including parts of Beechmont Park, Blue Jays Park and North Side Elementary School On February 10, 1821, John Dickinson offered an acre for each person who could produce a crop that year to start a gristmill in what would become known as "New Ulm". On July 1st, 1825 Anthony Hecker erected a log cabin near present-day Old Main Street with his family living there until 1840 when they moved to their current home on Green Lane opposite Green Tree Tavern which still stands today In 1836 following the admission of Pennsylvania into the Union as a new country under President Andrew Johnson (1808-1865), residents voted to incorporate as a borough with six wards represented by commissioners elected by residents rather than appointed commissioners from within township boundaries In 1932 Borough Council passed an ordinance establishing zoning for housing units designed for people with mental or physical handicaps

In 1840s, it was an important transportation hub due to its location on Route 517 between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh; however, after that period of growth there was a gradual decline in trade throughout most of the 20th century.
