The Dunmore War of 1812 was a conflict fought between the United States of America and Great Britain. The main cause of the war was the disagreement over the purchase of Quebec by France. The U.S. military presence in Canada increased after the American victory in Battle ofLake Erie, while Great Britain began to build an army in response to this increase in strength. In 1814, British troops invaded New York City, resulting in a battle that ended with British casualties larger than American ones. In 1815, British forces attacked Philadelphia, but were repulsed by U.S. troops under General Andrew Jackson. In 1816, Canadian forces invaded New York City again and drove British forces out; this time resulted in American casualties being higher than Canadian ones because of how large their army was at this point. In 1818, a Treaty of Ghent was signed between the United States and Great Britain which provided for an end to hostilities and compensation for Americans who had been wounded or lost their homes during the war (including those who had fled across the border). This treaty also allowed for trade between these two countries to resume as well as for future peace negotiations to take place through diplomats rather than through open warfare like that which took place during the war itself. In 1818, John Dunmore donated land to make up for an error in his baptism record. This donation made DunMORE an incorporated village. In 1865,DunMORE became a borough when it merged with nearby Clearfield Township. The borough was dissolved on May 15,1991 because of budget cuts by then-Mayor Tom Byrnes. Dunmore is a town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,568 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first settlers in Dunmore were surveyors and landowning gentlemen who surveyed and sold many tracts of land in the area that would become Butler County in 1792. They named their township "Dunmore" after James Dunmore, 2nd Baron Dunmore of Fife, Scotland who had been instrumental in leading the British forces during the American Revolution and had been rewarded with lands in what is now Butler County. The town was founded on September 12, 1836 by citizens of National City (now Allentown), including John Aiken and Isaac Goodrich. The new town was located on what is now Aspinwall Road between Township lines 4 & 5 east of where Findlay Street now crosses it at its junction with Route 66 (then known as US 27). On November 15, 1835 local residents voted to secede from Allegheny County to form a separate county called Butler because they felt that too much industrialization was taking place within Allegheny County without corresponding growth within their own community. On January 1st 1840, Dunmore became an independent township under control of ButlerCounty government. The original school buildings were built near present day Aspinwall Road and Findlay Street but all were destroyed by fire on October 7th 1903 which consumed most of thetown center complex including both schools while also destroying most other infrastructure such as water systems and post office facilities; this event remains one of the worst fires ever experienced within a small town or rural area in North America Prior to this time there had only been two minor fires which occurred within 300 feet of any building or structure however these events did not create such an outcry amongst inhabitants as happened subsequent similar incidents that took place over ensuing years culminating in 1955 when another major fire completely destroyed every building within five blocks radius including both public buildings as well as most homes leaving just a few remaining structures standing before being bulldozed for future development purposes; this tragedy again left much devastation following its occurrence leaving little hope for reconstruction which still exists today
