The Coast Guard was established in 1915 as the United States Coast Guard. It is now the National Transportation Safety Board. The Coast Guard has been an important part of American life and culture for over 160 years. In Columbia, Pennsylvania, the Coast Guard Station is one of the oldest and most historic Coast Guards stations in the country. The first station in Columbia was built on a small island near where today's Station Square is located. The original building served as a warehouse for supplies used by the Coast Guardsmen stationed at that location. In 1892, a new station was erected on land donated by Mrs. John Fenton (later Mrs. Edwin Aspinwall). Mr. Fenton had previous donated property to provide funds for a lighthouse and harbor improvement project in his town of Fulton County, Pennsylvania. In 1951, when Station Square opened its doors to visitors, it became clear that much needed to be done to improve safety on our waterfronts across from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Airport. A dredging project began which would ultimately remedy many problems with our waterway including turning navigation into an open ocean! The dredging project was completed in 1957 and marked an era of great progress for our port city! Today's Station Square offers panoramic views of all that Columbia has to offer; both old and new neighborhoods are easy to spot thanks to their distinctive architecture; while still embodying some of the traditions that have made this community so unique - such as volunteerism and community service!

Columbia, Pennsylvania was once a part of the Philadelphia-based Coast Guard. The Columbia County coast guard was activated on October 15, 1915 and became an official agency on December 6, 1923. The Coast Guard Station at Columbia had its first call sign Wahoo on December 12, 1921. On November 4, 1924 the station changed its name to Columbia. On July 1st, 1951 the Coast Guard Station at Columbia received new equipment which included a lifeboat and weatherization program for their vessels. In 1962 the station was closed due to budget cuts and reopened as a Maritime Training Center under the command of Lieutenant Commander David Hines in 1973 with new facilities including a 90 foot drill platform and radar scanning capabilities for vessel identification purposes.
Columbia, Pennsylvania is a small town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Erie- Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The land that now forms Columbia was first settled by Europeans in 1683 as part of the Forbes Expedition under General Edward Forbes. A post office called Columbia was established in 1790, and remained in operation until 1865. The town of Columbia was founded on November 3, 1827 by Judge John Cranch and Drury Dennison. It became a borough on December 12, 1854. The borough was dissolved on January 1, 1959; its assets were divided among the towns of Lackawanna and Buffalo Township (now South Buffalo). Columbia's history begins with Reverend James Henson who arrived there in 1792 to preach to Native Americans after relocating from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He also built what is known as "Henson's Chapel". In 1837 Colonel George Armstrong moved his family from Quakertown to establish himself at what is now Columbia; he named it Mount Carmel (later changed to Armstrong) because his father had been a missionary to Scotland and Ireland. Colonel Armstrong founded the Bethlehem Steel Company here in 1889 which remains one of the town's largest employers today. In 1898 Columbian physician and pharmacist Augustus Flexner opened up flexner & flexNERdys Drugstore which still operates today as one of downtownColumbia's most popular businesses - selling everything from prescriptions to groceries! Columbian Mayor Ambrose Lazarus formed a committee to study incorporation into another municipality due to lack of support from voters but no action was ever taken aside from objections voiced by some residents about how close their village would be come annexation time! On July 4th 1916 an act were passed annexing Columbiana into Lackawanna County for financial reasons only making sense given that so many people had already relocated there during World War I and many more would soon follow suit postwar for various reasons such as jobs available or increasing taxes! However when Westmoreland Borough applied for annexation same day as Columbiana it received higher approval ratings than any other township applying so this led to further protests against annexation despite lack of evidence! Eventually on October 15th 1916 an ordinance authorizing annexation by Westmoreland Borough failed 2-1 with majority being due to lack of support from local farmers who objecting too much to having their land take over by another municipality while they continued working sell their produce directly onto the market! Aftermath several petitions were started including one spearheaded by mayor Lazarus seeking a national boycott but without success

During the Vietnam War, the Coast Guard was a primary provider of maritime security along America's coastlines. Today's Coast Guard is an integral part of our country's defense system as it responds to events such as terrorist threats and natural disasters. One Of The earliest gifts given to the Coast Guards was a flagstaff from Fort Totten on Staten Island in 1812. In 1881, Commodore John Cushing presented a field artillery piece (the first Columbian) to duty atacama beach near Santiago de Cuba for use against Spanish pirates operating off that coast. The gift was followed by two more cannons in 1882-1883 which made Santiago one of only two points where United States naval forces could fire ordnance into Havana Harbor while under Cuban government control

Known as the "City of Columbia", Columbia, Pennsylvania is a small town located in York County. It was first settled by German-Americans in the late 18th century and became an incorporated town in 1892. The population of Columbia reached 7,000 by 1910, but shrunk to 2,500 by 1970 due to increasing commuting into larger cities. In recent years, however, the population has begun to grow again due to new businesses and homes being erected in the town. The city's economy is based on agriculture and manufacturing, with a majority of jobs being found in these industries. Columbia is known for its rich history and landmarks dating back to the early 1800s. Some of these include the Columbian Museum of Art (founded in 1881), which is home to some of the most significant art collections from Germanyever; John F Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum (opened in 1978); and Christ Church Cathedral (established in 1792). For residents living within city limits only, there are also several parks located within walking distance of downtown including Fenton Parkland Recreation Area and Montrose Park. The current mayor of Columbia is Jerry McNulty. The city had 545 residents when it was made an elected township under Act No. 109 of 1972; however, this number decreased over time as township status fell out of favor among local officials. As such, it would be incorrect to report that Columbia has any formal government at all - instead, it functions purely as a bedroom community for York County citizens who wish not to live within its borders.

The area was soon developed as a rice plantation center, and by the late 18th century, Columbia had become one of the largest slaveholding areas in North America. In 1837, during the terrible Panic of 1837, many people in Columbia committed suicide due to economic problems caused by a collapse in prices for goods brought over from England.
