Chambersburg is a town in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 9,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Chambersburg was founded in 1792 by Andrew Chambers and his wife Susanna Weiser as a small trading post on the east side of what is now Beaver County. In 1814, it became the county seat of Beaver County when that county was created from parts of Huntingdon and Lebanon counties. In 1868, Chambersburg annexed portion of Reading Township to form its new municipal government. The city of Philadelphia annexed portions of Reading Township in 1901 and 1914; however, no annexation has taken place since then because those municipalities are both located withinPhiladelphia municipality proper. The original land for modern Chambersburg was first settled by Native Americans in the area which now includes downtown and much of Center City along with areas to the south and west including today's Greenbelt neighborhood. By 1792, Andrew Chambers had started construction on what would eventually become Chamberburg after purchasing 640 acres (2 km²) northeast of where he currently stands on North Second Street in present-day Centre City from William Penn. When he arrived at his new home, he noted that there were only "a few hundred" people living around him due to lack of space or resources available on his purchase--an observation which future generations would confirmer as they explored central Pennsylvania during their early days as settlers. John Dickinson era letters show that Andrew Chambers desired to establish himself not just as a trader but also as an educator so that all people might have access to education opportunities should they desire them - something we can see throughout history with various entrepreneurs/builders setting up homeschooling schools or other forms learning institutes for their families and kinfolk). The town site chosen for Chamberburg wasn't without challenges either; landowners refused to sell because they felt it would be too close to Philadelphia or any other potential markets for their goods or services! Despite this though, Chambersburg quickly grew into one of central Pennsylvania's most important settlements with many businesses opening up soon after its foundation: Merchants storeyards still exist today off State Avenue near Independence Hall Andrew Chamber’s storeyard still stands today across from Independence Hall
