The Chambersburg Coast Guard was founded on December 12, 1857. The first commander of the coast guard was Captain John E. Smith and the first station was at Bellefonte Point. In 1922, the coast guard acquired its present location at Chambersburg-on-the-Bay. The Coast Guard currently has a personnel of 171 officers and men with a budget of $8 million. The coast guard has been able to provide emergency services for residents in the region for over 120 years. As part of their emergency response plan, the coast guard is equipped with an Incident Command Post (ICP), which provides centralized command and control for all incidents within the area. ICPs are also used to coordinate incident response between different agencies such as police, firefighters, ambulance service, and tribal members who may be affected by an event or emergency. Additionally, the Coast Guard maintains two Light House Stations in Chambersburg-on-the-Bay and Bellefonte Point. These stations are used to warn residents of danger from ships or other vessels while they are navigation available; they also provide spotting opportunities for marine biologists during research trips ashore. A variety of supplies and equipment are also distributed to local law enforcement agencies through surplus military materiel that is no longer being used by the military but remains available to law enforcement agencies through government cooperation agreements across stateside departments/agencies when appropriate .

The Chambersburg Coast Guard Auxiliary was organized on December 21, 1915. The original purpose of the Coast Guard Auxiliary was to provide a support role for the local police department. On February 14, 1923, the Auxiliary became an incorporated society with its own board of directors. In 1928, the Auxiliary purchased its first boat and began using it for patrols in the area around Chambersburg. On July 1, 1935, the Chambersburg Coast Guard Auxiliary merged with the Philadelphia Marine Bureau to form one organization called The Philadelphia Marine Bureau and Chambersburg Coast Guard Auxiliary Corporation. The new corporation had a budget of $3,000 and 10 officers. In 1938, after World War II ended and hostilities ceased in Europe, many members of The Philadelphia Marine Bureau joined forces with The Chambersburg Coast Guard Auxiliary Corporation to continue patrolling our waters. The present day Chamberburg-based coast guard agency is designated as Delaware County Department 5990-2018
Chambersburg, Pennsylvania is a town in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 11,554 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Clearfield County. The first European influx into what is now Chambersburg occurred during the American Revolutionary War when troops from Virginia and New York camped there for two months in 1778. The town's founders were William Chambers and his brother James Chamberlayne. In 1814, John Fenton founded the flour mill here which created a demand for flour that led to development of other businesses including a brewery and several stores. The community began to grow rapidly after it was made an incorporated borough in 1902. In 1923, Chambersburg became the first city in Pennsylvania to be granted a charter as an unincorporated borough with full voting rights (it had been part of Clearfield Township since 1800). The local steel industry declined during World War II but has revived since 2000 with new investment including production of aluminum cans and auto parts at the steel mill and new housing developments near the airport

Over time, other businesses followed suit and downtown grew increasingly commercialized as nightlife moved away from central business districts towards larger areas closer to homes. During World War II, Chambersburg played an important role as the largest center for munitions production in western Pennsylvania; during that time, many factories were located here including those responsible for creating America's first atomic bomb (the Alamogordo Bombing).
