The Chambersburg Area Army National Guard has been deploying gift histories for over 50 years. It is one of the oldest and most veteran organizations in the United States military. The unit was activated on November 8, 1916, as part of the American Revolution. Today, the Chambersburg Area Army National Guard maintains a large collection of deployed gift history items from every branch of service in the country. These items include clothing, equipment, toys, and many other unique pieces that remind our soldiers and their families how much they have loved andserved our country. One of the most popular deployments is patriotism week. This week-long event features performances by local bands and demonstrations by troops from all branches of service. Chambersburg is a small town in the United States located in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. The population was 9,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh–Kirksville metro area. The first Europeans to visit Chambersburg were French colonists who arrived in 1716 and erected a trading post on the banks of the Susquehanna River. In 1768, German settlers also arrived and founded a sawmill on the same site as today's Chambersburg Iron Works. In 1814, John Forbes became proprietor of the works and named it after himself. The town developed rapidly because of its location and commerce with surrounding counties. In 1827, Chambersburg was designated as capital of Cumberland County. During World War II, Chambersburg was one of many American towns that housed military units stationed in Europe or Asia; these units included both U.S. Army troops (the 5th Infantry Regiment) and U-boat crews (the 8th Naval District). The war affected especially those industries that depended on wartime production: steel production stopped completely due to shortages caused by wartime mobilization; but paper products continued to be manufactured from scratch using local mills until 1945 when they were replaced by imported machines In 1957, Chambersburg merged with nearby McKees Rocks to form an enlarged city called McKees Rocks/Chambersburg which had a population of over 20,000 people when it merged with Pittsburg/Kirksville metropolitan area effective July 1st 1959

Chambersburg was founded in 1792 by George Chambers and his brothers-in-law Nicholas Ewing and James Kapp as a small farming community on the Susquehanna River. In 1811, it became the county seat of Butler County. In 1868, it became a city when its population reached 10,000 people. It continued to be an agricultural center until the late 20th century; however, housing development has resumed in recent years in what is now downtown Chambersburg. The first settlers to arrive in what is now Chambersburg were George Chambers and his brothers Nicholas and James Ewing who came from Northumberland County, England in 1792 along with their families. They decided to settle on land that had been given to them by Lieutenant Colonel John Forbes of Fort Cumberland (now Harrisburg). They named their new settlement "Chambersburgh" after George's father-in-lawNicholas Ewing who helped them find the land and also served as their banker during their stay in America. The first post office was established at Chamberlin on March 2, 1800 by order of President George Washington under the name "New Kensington." In 1811 when Butler County was created from parts of Huntingdon and Lancaster countiesGeorge Chambers donated 1 acre (0 .4 km2) for use as county seat which later became known as Chamberlin after he donated it In 1868 when Chamberlain City became a city ordinance stated: ". . . all property within limits hereby set forth shall become subject to taxation according to real estate valuation laws current at that time." By this ordinance all commercial properties within 1/2 mile (1 km) of downtown chambersburg were required to pay $10 per year commercial assessment plus $5 for each building over 50 feet (.15 m), regardless of size or structure! This ordinance remains unchanged today although assessed values have increased since then due largely to recent residential development within downtown chambersburg

The town henceforth became known for General James "Jimmy" Chambers' memory and for his role in starting America's most significant war effort. In 1814, George Washington appointed John Forbes as Commissioner of Indian Affairs for western Pennsylvania and Chambersburg became one of his more important outposts on the frontier due to its strategic location between Pittsburgh and Yorktown Heights on the Jersey Shore (now New York City). In 1859, President James Buchanan designated Chamberlin Island off the Susquehanna River as part of Pittsburgh'slimitsup area following US victory over Mexican forces at Buena Vista Creek during their War for Independence which ended with Mexico ceding most of California to America under US control including Alta California
