The Carlisle Naval Shipyard built a number of warships for the United States Navy during World War II. Some of these ships were Class 3 destroyers, which were designed to provide protection against enemy submarines and other vessels. The first Class 3 destroyer was the USS Chester (DE-5) in 1944. The ship was donated by the City of Carlisle to the U.S. Navy in 1945. USS Chester served as part of the Pacific Fleet from August 1945 until she decommissioned in November 1946. She then served as a training ship at Long Beach, California before she was transferred to the Atlantic Fleet in May 1947. She became an antisubmarine warfare vessel when she joined her new unit, Task Force 128, off Newfoundland on July 1, 1948. From 1951 until 1954 she participated in Operation Coral Sea which saw Japan lose its main naval base at Rabaul while American forces fought against Japanese forces occupying Australian territory near New Guinea. In 1957 USS President Cleveland (AKA-3) was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Crouse to the U S NAVY through their contributions towards development of antisubmarine warfare capabilities for both future navies and coastal communities along our nation's coasts!. President Cleveland continued service with USN as a training ship until her retirement in 1968 and has been preserved at Maritime Museum sites around the country!

Carlisle is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1795 by German immigrants as Carlisle Heights. The name came from the nearby hills that were called "Carolin" because of their resemblance to the English county of Cumberland. By 1800, most of what is now Carlisle had been established and the town began to grow quickly due to its location on a trade route between North America and Europe. In 1828, it became one of the first towns in Butler County to be incorporated as a village. It wasn't until 1881 that Carlisle started experiencing sustained growth, when a new transportation link opened up between Pittsburgh and Lancaster which led to more businesses opening up in the area. In 1907, Carlisle was renamed for General John Auchinleck who had played an important role during both World War I and World War II as commander of British forces in northern Italy and Syria. The town's growth continued through the years; however, it did experience some setbacks such as when a fire destroyed much of downtown in 1955 and when steel mills closed throughout western Pennsylvania during the early 1970s due to low prices for imported materials caused by inflation. However, these events didn't dampen morale or cause residents to give up on their community; instead they kept working hard towards rebuilding after each setback while still feeling proud of their hometown's history and culture. In 1795, the site of Carlisle was first surveyed by John Dennison. It was then named for General George Washington. The town was founded in 1800 by Captain Jacob Hecht and his wife Eliza Hecht. The hecht family operated a mill here until 1836 when it was burned down. In 1838, the town received its charter from the Pennsylvania Legislature and began to grow rapidly with new construction and population growth. In 1848, Carlisle became a city and experienced rapid growth as more people moved into the area for work or pleasure. By 1870, it had a population of over 100,000 people and had developed into one of the most important cities in Pennsylvania. During World War I, Carlisle played an important role in supplying munitions to the war effort. In 1919, it became an official US city after being designated as part of Philadelphia on City Hall Square. A major fire destroyed much of downtown in 1936 but streetcars continued to serve the community through out the firestorm; this practice continued until 1938 when service ended due to safety concerns during wartime bombings raids against targets inside Philadelphia). The city's economy slowly declined during the post-war period due to loss of jobs in manufacturing and other industries but revived somewhat during Recession years beginning in 2007-2009 following aggressive job placement efforts by local firms such as Carlisle Citizens Bankruptcy Clinic Incorporated (CCC) . However, recent economic conditions have deteriorated again with high unemployment rates across all sectors throughout PA .
