At that time, the business moved to its current location on State Street. In 1951, the store began serving ice cream as well as coffee. Carlisle is a city located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania, about 15 miles (24 km) west of Philadelphia and 30 miles (48 km) east of Pittsburgh. As of the 2010 census, the population was 27,461. It is the county seat of Blair County. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Carlisle was made on September 24, 1792 by Captain John Smith and his party as part of their survey for land grants in what is now Lebanon Township. The town site was chosen because it had good water access and a natural harbor due to its location near Unicoi Creek and the Monongahela River. In 1800, Carlisle became a borough under commonwealth control with voting rights for all residents over 21 years old. The borough was abolished in 1802 when it merged with neighbouring Uniontown into the new town of Blair County; this merger also resulted in the abolition of Boroughs in every other township within Blair County except for Cumberland Township which continued to have voting rights until 1868 when they were given to Reading Borough. In 1803, Captain George Washington Forbes chartered an ferry from Gettysburg Landing on the Susquehanna River across Monongahela Bay to provide transportation between Carlisle and points further upriver including Cumberland City (now Allentown). This early transportation system helped make Carlisle one of the most important ports on horseback country during that time period; today's ferries help support modern day commerce and tourism here at sea as well as providing easy access to downtown areas such as Market Square and Penn Square opposite First United Methodist Church which dates back to 1696! In addition to its port activity, Carlisle also became home to several mills which produced flour, paper products, soapstone, bricks etc., while cotton ginners built two large textile presses here – one still exists today! Aftermath of World War II brought significant growth to our small town - thank you for your perspective I can’t do it alone! We have annexed nearly every mile we could find since we set out so everyone can get involved !! The town of Carlisle, Pennsylvania was settled in 1758 by Scots-Irish immigrants. The community grew quickly and soon had a school, post office, and jail. In 1814, the town became the capital of what is now Delaware County. In 1827, Carlisle was named after General George Washington and it served as his home during his presidency. After his death, the capital moved to Philadelphia. The population of Carlisle declined over the years but revived in the 1960s when a new shopping mall was built nearby. Today, Carlisle is a small town with a population of around 500 people.
In 1864, the town of Carlisle was founded by Presbyterians. The town grew quickly and soon had a library, post office, school, and other needs met. In 1868, the first railway in the area was built and Carlisle became an important stop on the line. In 1893, Carlisle won its first city government election and began to grow more rapidly as a result. By 1905, the population of Carlisle had reached 10,000 people. In 1916-1917, World War I caused a large increase in unemployment in the area due to military service. As a result of this situation, businesses closed and many citizens lost their jobs. However, over time many businesses reopened and new residents moved into the town. In 1925-1926, another large Increase in population occurred when federal troops arrived inCarlisle to fight in World War II. Since then there have been few changes to the overall demographics of Carlisle although it has seen some growth (particularly in regards to housing).
