Butler, Pennsylvania is a city in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 10,539 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Butler County. The city is located in the northwestern corner of Butler County on the Allegheny River. Butler was founded by George Butler in 1796 and named after General Joshua Butler who had fought in the French and Indian War. The first courthouse was built in 1800 and served as the county seat until 1827 when it moved to Lebanon to be closer to other institutions. In 1829, a new courthouse was built and served as the state capitol from 1907 to 1915 before being moved back to Butler for another period of time until it was destroyed by fire in 1922. A new courthouse was completed in 1960 and still serves as the primary government building for Butler today. The city has taken many different forms over its history but all have been based around agriculture or commerce with some notable exceptions including: In 1954, construction began on what would become known as "the pink house" which represented one of the earliest developments within Butler City limits; this home became famous for being designed by Philadelphia architects Ivar Noyes and Adolphus Buschmeyer and featured an open-air swimming pool that could be accessed from surrounding streets through a large glass door atrium aboveground. The structure eventually burned down due to arson however it left an enduring legacy both inside and outside of town with later similar homes becoming nationally known following their construction examples throughout America In addition to housing development there are now several restaurants located within walking distance of most businesses along Main Street such as Pizzeria Bianco (formerly Italian Forte), White Castle BBQ & Burger House, UPS Store (now Bob’s Pizza), Dunkin’ Donuts & KFC etc., making it easy for residents/ visitors alike to get food They also offer educational opportunities such as summer camps offered by local organizations like Green Mountain Conservation Corps which teach children about conservation topics while they staycation nearby

Butler was founded in 1795 by John Butler and his family as a trading post on the Susquehanna River. The post became a borough in 1853 and became a village in 1903. In 1915, Butler was incorporated as a city with a population of 54,626. As of the 2010 census, its population was 487.[1] The first settler in what is now Butler County was John Butler who arrived from Ireland in 1795 and built the first cabin here on the Susquehanna River. He named his location "Butlerstown" after himself and his home country but it soon came to be known as "Butler." Businesses were started early here including gristmills, sawmills, wagon construction companies and more; all of which helped support many families for many years until transportation finally replaced agriculture as the primary means of livelihood for many people hereabouts. John Auld (1796-1858), one of America's first surveyors working for Congress during its formative days during George Washington's presidency surveyed much of this area including what is now Butler County back then called Cumberland Township on October 15th 1810 while riding his horse downriver from Philadelphia to Mifflinburg on behalf of General Washington. From that day forward this beautiful rolling countryside became part of our national patrimony we call "New York Township". It wasn't until after Confederation whenPennsylvania state government took over management and development here so vast tracts lay fallow until something wonderful happened - entrepreneur James McMurtry decided to start farming production jobs right there on our township streets!
