Butler, Pennsylvania is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The community was formed in 1827 when two families united and named it Butler. The first post office opened in 1829. In 1861, Butler became the capital of Butler County after its incorporation as a township. In 1865, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania annexed Butler to Allegheny County and the name of the township changed to Butler Township; however, local residents retained their own governance until 1974 when all municipalities within Butler Township were merged into one municipality under the name of Pittsburgh Borough. The history of Butler begins with two families who pooled their resources and named their new town after themselves—George and Esther (Foley) Butler. George was from Lancaster County and Esther from Westmoreland County. They decided to combine their efforts so that they could bring more people together to build a better life in what would become their new home. They started by purchasing 160 acres (72 hectares) near present-day White Oak Lane for $2 per acre ($10 per hectare). This purchase set off a series of donations which allowed them to build roads and other infrastructure needed for growth while also ensuring that future generations would be able to enjoy this land as well. Over time, many other families joined them in founding businesses or joining forces with others to create larger ventures; these partnerships helped fuel continued growth throughout the years until 1903 when John Denny erected his mill on North Side Street which soon became an important commercial center for the surrounding area due to its proximity to transportation arteries such as I-75/I-79/US 71/PA 76 etc., making it easy for shoppers from all over Jefferson City and beyond accessto local products at high prices without having had any trouble finding parking or getting around on narrow streets during peak hours

Butler is a town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,827 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Butler County and home to the Butler University campus. The first settler in Butler was Nicholas Brown in 1798. In 1801, Christopher Denton settled in what is now Butler Township. He erected a small log cabin on top of an anthracite coal mine he had discovered nearpresent day Easton. Some years later, John Purdy and his brother James bought the land from Denton for $100. They started a small farm with their sons until 1815 when they sold all their holdings to Gideon Welles and Nathaniel Read for $150. They named their new farm "Butler". Howeverler Township was organized on December 16, 1818 by Order of President James Kapp as one of seventeen townships in Butler County – along with Beaverdam (now Westmoreland), Crabtree (now Lebanon), Elk Creek (now White Oak), Hawk's Nest (now Uniontown), Horseshoe Bend (now Clearwater Springs), Killianstown (now Greensburg), Locketown (now Bellefonte) and Perrystown (now Kingwood). On March 24, 1830, portions of Sussex were added to Butler Township; these were followed by parts of Monaca in 1834 and Mayfield in 1865. In 1850, most southern parts of Butler Township including all but part of Bellefonte were included within Lawrence County when that county was formed from part of Delaware County following the US Civil War; this left only Northside as part of Butlershire Borough which continued to be a part of Lawrence until it became its own township on January 1st 1907 On November 15th 1890 block numbers 10 through 14 inclusive were donated to Butlershire Borough by Mrs Mabel Laughlin for use as public housing known then as "The Gables" After being abandoned for many years 4 blocks north on Sheehan Street passed into private hands again before being acquired by the city government who converted it into "Old City Hall" currently used as office space

In 1824, the first railroad reached the area and the name of the town changed to Butler. In 1847, a post office was established in the town and it has remained unchanged ever since. The steel industry is what has made Butler one of the most important towns in Pennsylvania. The town began producing steel products in 1903 and still does so today. The mills are located on State Avenue in downtown Butler.
