Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania is a town in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 9,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Bloomsburg is home to two universities: The University of Pittsburgh and West Virginia University. The first settlers in what would become Bloomsburg were Scottish immigrants who arrived in 1795. They named their new town after William Bloomfield (1753-1825), an American patriot and member of the Pennsylvania General Assembly who helped pass the state's Constitution. Bloomfield had been born in Scotland but moved to America when he was just seventeen years old and became one of the earliest entrepreneurs in what would become Pittsburgh. He founded the Bloomfield Bank and Trust Company on December 15, 1795, which remains one of Pittsburg's most significant institutions today. In 1834, John Ligon added 2 acres (0.81 km²) to blossom onto what would become known as Main Street - now called Second Street - becoming one of Bloomsburg's most influential citizens during its early days as a small community located on the edge of rural Cumberland County with access only via dirt roads and horse carts from miles away. Ligon also served as President pro tempore for both Chambers' Courts from 1835-1838 and 1840-1843; a position that gave him great influence over local government at a time when such power was limited by law unto itself within certain judicial districts within each county...Ligon represented notable portions of northeastern Cumberland County until his death on October 24th,...He leaves behind an lasting legacy not only as an important civic leader but also for his many philanthropic endeavors throughout his life."

HMS Resolution also lost her propellers after striking rocks off shore while submerged during Exercise Saxon Spearhead on July 8th 1988 when she collided with another ship while surfaced off San Diego California beach The damage done prevented HMS Resolution from rejoining service until late 1990s After 9/11 USS Fitzgerald capsized killing 14 sailors including 4 United States Marines On October 15th 2017 USS McCain collided with merchant vessel EPOCHE near Okinawa Japan killing 5 Japanese crewmembers The collision resulted in $25 million US Navy investigationUSS McCain sustained extensive damage including multiple breaches through her hull which required total reconstruction

Bloomsburg was founded in 1781 by James Bloomfield. The town's first buildings were built on the site of what is now the James E. Proctor Community College campus. The town was named after Bloomfield's son, Isaac Bloomsbury. In 1838, Bloomingdale County was created from parts of Huntingdon and Frederick counties. Bloomingdale County included part of what is now Bloomsburg. In 1863, Bloomingdale County became part of Pennsylvania and Bloomingdale Township changed its name to Bloomsburg Township. In 1868, the borough of Bloomsburg was erected within Bloomsburg Township and it remained a borough until 1959 when it became a city. The city prospered under Mayor John Pugh and City Councilmember Milton Greene until their death in 1984 and 1988 respectively. The current mayor is Darrell Clarke who took office on January 1, 2018
Bloomsburg is a town in and the county seat of Bloomsburg County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 71,945 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Susquehanna River and has a total area of , of which is land and is water. The original name for Bloomsburg was "Blessington". The first European settlers in what is now Bloomsburg were German Lutherans who came to the area in 1682. They named their settlement "Blessington" after Blessed Sacrament Parish in Hamburg, Germany. In 1753, Swedish colonists arrived and named their settlement "Halmstad". In 1814, both settlements were renamed to honor General George Washington's birthday – Blessingstone (Halmstad) became Washington Township and Haldimand Township became Bloomington Township. In 1827, ownership of portions of Centre County passed from Sweden to United States through the Treaty of Paris following the French and Indian War. On December 12, 1827, Ulysses S. Grant donated 3 acres (1 ha) northeast of downtown Bloomington to be used as a public square for Bloomington Township under the condition that it remain open to all people without distinction on an equal basis regardless of race or religion; this Square later became known as Grant Parkette. Bloomington Hospital opened its doors on October 15th, 1870 inside what is now First Presbyterian Church building (now part of University Tower). The first post office was established at Blossomburgh on April 24th by mail from Swede John Myrick with P O BOX 2711-Bloomingdale PA 1907 two hundred fifty miles away from our own postal service via Erie Canal... In 1915-16 there was some discussion about demolishing what is now Second Presbyterian Church because it had been built without consent by then township administrator Amos Brownlow.. After some back and forth between residents various meetings were held where decisions were made not to tear down any buildings but rather continue talks regarding plans for future development including potential use as a library or museum within township limits! On November 10th 1916 a motion was made by trustee Maurice Krug that if plans exist for memory lane/museum adjacent property line running near Seventh Methodist Episcopal Church lot North represent east side trustees vote yes motion carried unanimously
