Smith Jr., also received a gift from Fitzpatrick. The two officers met at Smith's home one evening after work and discussed how they planned to keep Bethel Park running smoothly. A friendship quickly developed between the two men and their relationship grew stronger until Fitzpatrick left for assignment in Erie County on January 1, 1839. Fitzpatrick returned to Bethel Park on July 4th and continued to serve as the city's police officer until his death on September 10th of that year at the age of 58 years old. Prior to his retirement, Fitzpatrick had received commendations both from his peers and from President James Krieger for his many years of service to Bethel Park residents. In celebration of Fitzpatrick's retiring moments, the city held an event called "John C. Fitzpatricks Birthday Bash" which featured refreshments and music throughout the evening while speeches were made by Mayor Harry Senter and Police Chief William Junkercey about what John C.'s contributions have meant toBethel Park over the years. Bethel Park is a small town in central Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Harrisburg-Wilkes-Barre, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Bethel Park was founded in 1792 and named for the biblical God Bethel. The first settler in Bethel Park was Isaac Beiler who arrived in 1795. By 1800, there were four families living in the area: Beiler, Rankin, White and Smith. In 1806 , John Rankin purchased land west of present day Bethel Park from David Wilson for £200 sterling. The Rankins ran a mill on the stream that flows through the town until it was replaced by a dam in 1907 . The first post office called Bethel Park was established on December 7, 1836 . The name change came about because of an error made by Benjamin Franklin when he voted on naming a post office for what would become Pittsburgh . In 1868 , Amos Dickson erected a lime kiln near what is now Main Street in Bethel Park to make lime for making bricks for his new store which he built south of today's intersection of Maple and Birch Streets.. He also set up an sawmill which became one of the largest mills in Berks County. It should be noted that "Lime Kiln" stands adjacent to what used to be Beaver Dam Creek which still forms a small body of water near Beechwood Road off Route 811 (now Interstate 79). Today's creekbed can be seen northeast of Beaver Dam Drive/Route 811 turning northwest towards where US 20 used to run concurrent with I-79 before splitting into two routes just east of Beaver Dam Drive/Route 811 forming an interchange known as Crystal Lake Road/I-79 which has been closed since 2007 when US 20 moved further east onto county lines creating Butler Township and its eastern boundary becoming Clear Meyers Road where I-79 intersects Butler Township line

It is part of the Harrisburg-Carlisle-Yorktown Micropolitan Statistical Area. Bethel Park was first settled by Germans in 1788 and named after nearby Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The town developed into a farming community with astrong woolen industry during the 1800s, until it became an industrial center due to its proximity to railroads and foundries. In 1932, Bethel Park became one of twelve municipalities within what would become Philadelphia Township; but its growth slowed as manufacturing moved away from the city and away from agriculture. During World War II, Bethel Park played an important role in supporting military efforts in Europe through its production of munitions and other materials for war effort. The postwar years saw increased development around downtown and east side streets that led to increased pollution and traffic problems. However, recent development has begun to reverse some of these trends while also creating new businesses in central Bethel Park.
Bethel Park was founded on May 14, 1765 by Reverend John Bethel. The town was named after the biblical figure of Abram and his wife Sarah. The first settler in Bethel Park was Samuel Wilson, who built a log cabin on the northeast corner of East Market and Huntingdon Streets. By 1800, there were around 125 people living in the town. In 1815, Rev. John Cranch purchased land in Bethel Park from Amos Kendall for $1,000. He renamed the land "Cranch's Hill". In 1825, he sold his share of the property to Joshua Grier for $2,500. By 1830, there were over 350 people living in Bethel Park. In 1835-36, construction began on what is now known as White House Road (now Parsippany Boulevard). This road served as a main artery between Philadelphia and Lancaster County during this time period. The first school in Bethel Park was established on North Huntingdon Street in 1839 by Mrs. Rebecca Giles and taught reading and arithmetic to children from 5 to 12 years old while their parents worked at home. It was later moved to its current location on East Market Street where it still operates today as a public school with grades Pre-K through 8th grade
