Bethel Park is a small town in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 8,827 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Statistical Area. Bethel Park is located on the banks of the Monongahela River and borders Westmoreland Township to the east, Lawrence Township to the south, and North Huntingdon Township to the west. The first settler in what would become Bethel Park was Andrew Gregg in 1814. He built a cabin on a bluff overlooking the river. In 1826, John Pugh moved to Bethel Park from nearby Greenville and started an agricultural business. The first store in Bethel Park was opened by George Hargrave in 1830. By 1840, there were ten stores in what would becomeBethel Park. In 1856, Revs Josiah Morse and Elijah White organized what would become Carnegie Hall Presbyterian Church in bethell park with $5200 worth of donations from wealthier residents of Pittsburgh's African American community. The first service was held on October 20 that year at Old Fort Hill School (now Adamstown Middle School). After three years of construction, the church was completed on November 1, 1858 at a cost of $25000 dollars including interest payments on that money from previous donors! At this time it was one of only four churches with its own land grant given by President James Kahl for denominational use within Pittsburgh's black community – deemed important for religious education as well as social stability during difficult times following emancipation! The population of Bethel Park peaked at over 100,000 in 1930 but has since declined significantly. Today, the town has a population of around 10 people. Bethel Park’s history is intertwined with that of Pennsylvania itself. It is one of just a few municipalities in Pennsylvania that were founded as townships rather than simply villages or cities – this is due to its strategic location on the Susquehanna River which made it an ideal spot for trading and commerce. Furthermore, because Bethel Park’s founders were so committed to supporting their community through education and economic development, it remains one of the most successful townships in Pennsylvanian history.
