In 1792, when Congress passed an act establishing Pennsylvania as a separate state from Virginia, citizens of both states met at Easton Hall to discuss boundary lines between their respective territories. The delegates from Baldwin voted against joining Pennsylvania but they did agree to establish a militia regiment called Fencibles (later called volunteers). This unit served as an recruiting ground for potential soldiers for American Revolution efforts! As time went on, more businesses opened up in downtown Baldwin and various social clubs emerged that enabled residents to meet one another face-to-face! It wasn’t until 1812 that Constitution Hall became operational as the seat of government for all Lancaster County! That year saw enactment of Act No 602 which authorized purchase by city residents of two lots located at Third Street and Market Square! In 1814 there was another election held which resulted in James Buchanan becoming president! He appointed George Washington Tucker as commissioner responsible for overseeing tax collection within Lancaster County! In 1815 Constitution Hall burned down due to weather factors; this event marksthe first time a building had ever been destroyed by fire in Baldwin!!! During Reconstruction period (1868-1877), local black men were hired by white businessmen as sharecroppers/semi-skilled laborers throughout central/eastern PA under terms set forth by President Abraham Lincoln following his Emancipation Proclamation!! These workers constituted one third of all female labor throughout much OF America during this time!!!!! Many women left their homes behind while working construction or farm work part-time supplemented with wage earnings from white men!!!!!!!!! Even though these endeavors were often fraught with danger & discrimination - they provided emancipation opportunities & helped break down color barriers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Baldwin is a small town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,817 at the 2010 census. Baldwin is part of the Scranton–Wilkes-Barre, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The original name of Baldwin was "McKees Rocks". McKees Rocks was once a large and influential community located near present-day Baldwin. In 1798, General James Forbes (the great-grandson of Sir John Forbes) destroyed McKees Rocks after a series of raids on local farms. In 1824, John Denny founded what is now the city of Wilkes-Barre within the boundaries of Baldwin Township. At that time, Wilkes-Barre was only a small village consisting mainly of agricultural land and one or two buildings. The first post office in Baldwin opened in 1831. For many years it served as the second most important post office in Lackawanna County behind Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. A major fire destroyed most of downtown Wilkes-Barre on October 15th 1868 which caused an estimated $2 million damage and resulted in more than 100 fatalities including many notable citizens such as businessman Samuel Morse and physician Drummel Calkins. The fire completely destroyed much of downtown Scranton with only limited damage done to businesses and homes across the river in Lackawanna County
