Baldwin is a town in the United States located in the state of Pennsylvania. The population was 2,451 at the 2010 census. Baldwin is part of the Hazleton–led Susquehanna Valley School District. The town was named for General John Baldwin, who fought in the American Revolution and died at Yorktown. The community was founded by farmers on a small stream called Baldwin's Run. The first post office opened in 1824. In 1837, Baldwin became part of the new Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In 1907, Baldwin had its first tornado when a major storm swept through the area causing widespread damage and injuries. In 1925, an oil pipelineburst killed four people and injured dozens more in nearby Williamsport; this event helped spur development around that time in what is now known as "the Pipeline Belt." Baldwin's economy has been based largely on agriculture since it was formed as a small town; however, recent years have seen some growth within the retail and service sectors as well as within tourism with both local businesses and out-of-state visitors coming to visit art galleries and attractions like Gettysburg State Park.

Baldwin was founded in 1794 by John Baldwin and his wife, Susannah. The town became a center for trade and industry, with a thriving agricultural economy. In the early 1800s, Baldwin was one of the most populous towns in Pennsylvania. By 1810, it had become a small but prosperous community with a population of around 100 people. However, by 1830, Baldwin's population had decreased to just 10 people due to recolonization from nearby Lancaster County by American Indians. However, through hard work and determination, Baldwin quickly regained its position as one of Pennsylvania's most prominent communities. In 1838, the town voted to secede from Pennsylvania and become an independent state under the banner of "Free Soil". The community thrived until 1849 when violence broke out between local settlers and Native Americans following land disputes. This period is known as the Beaver Wars. Afterward, Baldwin experienced significant decline as many residents left for better opportunities in other states. Its population peaked at around 230 people in 1880 but gradually declined until it fell below 100 people by 1920. Today, there are only a few remaining residents who live in the town dating back to its founding days.
