The Baldwin County, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment was formed on November 6, 1861 from the merger of two other units. The first unit to be organized was the 1st Battalion of the Lancaster Volunteers. On December 3rd, 1861, it was renamed to the 2nd Battalion of the Lancaster Volunteers and on January 15th 1862 it was redesignated as Company H in honor of Colonel John Henry Baldwin who had died in action at Bull Run that summer. On July 16th, 1862 Captain George L. Richardson assumed command of Company I and remained in that position until his death on October 20th. Lieutenant Colonel John J.Hampton then took command and led Companies I-III until he too died at Gettysburg on July 3rd 1863. His replacement was Lieutenant Colonel Robert Pemberton who served with distinction for six months before being transferred to duty with Companies K-N in Virginia where he became Commandant at Richmond during 1865. HeReturned home after General Lee's surrender and resumed command of Company K which he commanded until his death on February 21st 1866 at age 59 years old. In 1875 Lieutenant Colonel Charles Fenton assumed command when Major General Amos Dickson resigned because of a health issue; Fenton held that position until resigning himself due to illness three weeks later on March 5th 1876 effective April 1st 1876 concurrent with General Order No 11 dated March 12th 1865 which abolished company responsibility within infantry regiments upon their dissolution while retaining battalion responsibilities within regimentations under Army Regulations issued pursuant thereto (Army Regulation No 9). During this time Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion were located at Mechanicsburg while Aide Squadron and signals detachment were located at Allentown (later Reading). Aide Squadron consisted of two companies each commanded by an officer) while signals detachment consisted only of one company commanded by an enlisted man) both companies operating outfitted with radiotelegraph equipment used for military purposes only

Baldwin is a small town in central Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,451 at the 2010 census. Baldwin is located on the southern border of Huntingdon County and includes the villages of Deerfield and Westville. The first European to discover Baldwin was Nicholas Venables, who named it after his friend Samuel Baldwin, an Englishman who had settled there in 1724. In 1768, John Forbes maps the area as part of Scotland Township within Huntingdon County. The first settler in what is now Baldwin was James Robertson in 1827. He purchased 640 acres (2 km²) of land east of present-day deerfield village from Simon Cameron for $1,500. In 1828, he erected a log cabin on this property and named it Baldwin after his friend Samuel Baldwin. In 1829, James Robertson's son Alexander Purchase built a sawmill on the streams near present-day westville village for grinding corn to be used for livestock feed. This mill continued operation until 1904 when it was replaced by the current one which stands today along with several other buildings that were part of the original mill complex including a grist house and dam.. On October 15, 1800, Abraham Lincoln was born in nearby Dennison Township into a family that had been living there since before then. His father Thomas Lincoln also lived in or near Baldwin for many years prior to his birth There are two La Salle Colleges located just outside of town - Stroudsburg University and Mercyhurst University - both offer undergraduate degrees primarily in business administration and information technology/networking/Internet services respectively-. One such business owner who made significant contributions to downtown Baldwin during its heyday was Mr./Mrs Jerry Lewis who ran numerous businesses including an ice cream parlor and convenience store on Center Street called "The Lewis". A large statue bust (of Abe himself) can be seen atrium fronting Main Street across from Stroudsburg University now housing office space following extensive renovation efforts over recent years spearheaded by community members aided by funding provided through grants given bythe coordination committee headed up by Mayor Tom Fenton
