Aliquippa is a town in Perry County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Aliquippa is located on the Allegheny River and is bordered by Northumberland Township to the north, Armstrong Township to the east, Westmoreland Township to the south, and Clearfield Township to the west. The first white settler in Aliquippa was Nicholas Canning who arrived in 1793. William Penn granted Canning's land around 1800. The first school in Aliquippa was built in 1804 by Rev. John Greenidge and taught until 1865 when it moved to its present location near Ninth Street and State Avenue. The Erie Canal passed through Aliquippa in 1825 which led to increased trade with surrounding counties and an increase in population as farmers began planting corn, wheat, soybeans, oats and other crops throughout central PA. In 1830 a new courthouse was erected on Main Street between Third and Fourth Streets; this building still stands today as part of borough hall. The post office opened on October 4th of that year with Jno Henshaw as Postmaster General; he served until 1861 when Samuel Fenton took over for him. In 1843 Joseph White settled along boundary line between Armstrong/Westmorelandtownships and Northumberlandtownships near current day Tubman Elementary School; he constructed a large log cabin which still stands today within view of Tubman Elementary School property line from Armstrong/Westmorelandtownship side - visible from state Route 11 (now Boulevard). Mr White also laid out what are now Center streets NW & SE - one can still see traces of his boundary lines running northerly down both Center streets towards Tubman Elementary School while looking towards Armstrong township border fromState Route 11 side - making Aliquippa one of oldest townships statewide! In 1855 James Crouse established a gristmill on Beaver creek just south of present-day Airport Road & First Street NE; this mill continued operation until 1959 when it closed due to lack of available water supplies however mills such as this have been re-opened multiple times throughout history including most recently by PECO Energy Corporation currently operating it as an open-air Mill museum! In 1860 Anna Stephenson founded her own store at corner Broad & Main Streets; this store operated continuously until 1955 when it closed due to larger stores opening up adjacent to it during that decade squeeze caused by industrial growth around Pittsburgh while small businesses like Mrs Stephenson's store were unable or unwilling To compete with these larger stores!. Today only two pieces remaining from Anna Stephenson's original store remain within view acrossBroad & Main Streets property line from Factory buildings next door all along Marshall street frontage -visible even more easily since late 1990s after extensive restoration work!! This unique opportunity expired several decades ago however efforts continue intensifying by local resident groups variousLY funded thru grants received via US Treasury department!!! This paper seeks not onlyto document some significant aspects about early resident families who lived/worked/died here but also underscores how much community spirit continues TO SURVIVE AND CROWD OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL SYSTEM IN ALIQUIPA TODAY!

Aliquippa is a town in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It was named for the Aliquippa Creek. The first settler in Aliquippa was Nicholas Moretti and his family who arrived in 1784 from Brescia, Italy. They were the first to purchase land in what is now Huntingdon County. Moretti erected a log cabin on the site of present-day Aliquippa Township on December 26, 1784. He and his family were pioneers in this region and are considered to be one of the early settlers of this area of Pennsylvania. In 1807, John Fenton built a mill on the creek which became known as Fenton's Mill Pond or Fenton's Dam (now part of Aliquippa). The mill operated until 1865 when it closed due to lack of patronage. In 1839, James Kapp established an inn called The Hermitage on the banks of the creek near present-day Center Township. From 1840 through 1860, Kapp ran this inn as a boardinghouse for travelers along Route 431 which crossed at that location. In 1869 Anthony Zerilli established a sawmill on Big Beaver Creek adjacent to present day Center Township which continued operation until 1903 when it went out OFFSITE due to water shortages caused by two major floods that year - Mud Creek Flood and Clearfield Floods. Zerilli is credited with being one of the earliest farmers in Aliquippa and is also responsible for developing much of what exists today around downtown Aliquippa including most notably Zimmerli Park located across from Main Street Union Station downtown."
