Woodburn is a town in Oregon, United States, located on the Columbia River about 15 miles (24 km) northeast of Portland. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. The name Woodburn was given to the town by pioneer settlers because of the burning of trees that occurred there. One early settler said "the wood burners came all around and we had no choice but to give them the name." The first permanent residents of Woodburn were pioneers who arrived in 1845. They built a log cabin on a bluff overlooking the river and began trading goods with local tribes. In 1849, they founded a post office and began developing a community that included several stores and homes. In 1860, part of what is nowPortland was added to Woodburn while other parts were annexed in 1870-71.
