Adams and his brother-in-law James Fenton, who opened a small grocery and cafe in what is now the town square. In 1893, the brothers started a small coffee roasting business that quickly became known for itsquality beans and delicious cup of java. Over time, other businesses joined the Fenton store as it grew into an empire that included cafes, restaurants, and more than twenty properties throughout Oregon and Washington. The history of gourmet coffee in Woodburn goes back much further than that – to when farmers in the area first started growing premium beans for local consumption. According to legend, Gertrude Franklin (1873-1962) was the first woman to ever own land in Oregon and she began cultivating coffee trees there in the 1920s. Woodburn is a small town in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, United States. The population was 671 at the 2010 census. The name "Woodburn" is derived from thevienna Sudetenlander word "Wald". The first people to live in what is now Woodburn were the Haida. They built their village on top of a hill near where Interstate 5 and U.S. Route 99 meet today. In 1824, Captain David Mandel of the Oregon Territory explored this area and named it Jhalama for his home country, Hungary. John McLoughlin took possession of the land from Captain Mandel in 1825 and began to build a ranch there that he called Rancho San Francisco de las Animas (later renamed Woodburn). He also founded what would become School District No. 2 in 1827, which included present-day Woodburn and portions of present-day Wallowa County. The first post office was established at Rancho San Francisco de las Animas on December 25, 1827; it was renamed Woodbourne on February 26, 1829 because mail arrived at that address from Astoria, Oregon Territory (then part of Mexican California). From 1830 to 1835, it was located at Juanita House on Umpqua Road west of present-day Wallowa County seatpost Wellsville; after that time it relocated to its current location near I-5 and U.S.-99 junction northwest of downtown Woodburn. In 1840–41 settlers came from Illinois via wagon train under Captains George Ruggles and James Waddell; they had been sent by Governor Joseph Lane as part of a wagon drive through central Oregon to assess land claims before Lane's departure for California with cartloads of gold bullion in late 1840 or early 41 . Among these pioneers were Seth Coleman who homesteaded east side (northwest)of I-5 north of woodBurn about opposite river crossing today known as Olsen Road; he erected an old blacksmith shop building still standing south side Olson Road near intersection with US 99/I-5 today known as Coleman's Cornerstone Historic Site

The town of Woodburn, Oregon was founded in 1887 by pioneers. The community was named after the burnished wood that is found near the town's location on the Columbia River. The early settlers were farmers and ranchers who began settling the area in 1876. They used logs from nearby mills to build their homes and businesses. By 1886, the town had a population of 25 people. In 1907, Woodburn became part of Tillamook County. In 1916, it was renamed Woodburn Township and in 1922 it became a city. In 1978, Woodburn became an unincorporated community again. In 1993, it was annexed by Portland. Today, Woodburn is a small community with a population of about 150 people. Its economy is based on agriculture and tourism around its downtown square where visitors can find art galleries, restaurants and shops maintained by volunteer groups such as the Chamber of Commerce
In 1853, Oregon became a state and the town of Woodburn was established. The town was named after General David S. Woodbury who helped lead the first successful U.S. invasion of Mexico in 1847 and led the American forces that won the battle of Buena Vista.
