The company that built the plant was called First National Coffee and Tea Company. It roast to order and sells its coffee through local stores. In 1916, the United States went to war and the coffee market was devastated. However, due to rationing, First National Coffee continued to produce high-quality beans until it closed its doors in 1945. During World War II, many of the town's businesses were destroyed but they were quickly rebuilt thanks to their community support. Woodburn continues to be a major center for coffee production today with over eighty businesses roasted and sold through local stores as well as online retailers. The town is also home to three cafes that serve up unique cup of java: One location offers both drip and espresso drinks while another specializes in French press coffee; Lastly, there is an organic farm that grows world-renowned vanilla beans for use in their coffees.

The first coffee beans were grown in the area now known as Woodburn, Oregon in 1847. The town was founded on the banks of the Willamette River by Nehemiah Ballou and his brother Ezra Ballou. In 1861, John Wesley Smith and Elijah Porter started a small coffee business near what is now Wallowa Lake. In 1865, Alfred Peet started a grocery and post office in town. By 1870, coffee had become an important part of the local economy and several stores sold roasted beans. Coffee production increased throughout the late 1800s with many farmers growing coffee for their own use or selling it to large importers such as J.B. Laughlin & Sons in Seattle. In 1901, Tom Doherty opened the first store in Woodburn that became a popular tourist destination for coffee lovers worldwide due to its unique architecture including a stained glass window depicting beans being roasted by monks at a monastery near Rome. The store continued to be open until it burned down in 1974.
The town of Woodburn, Oregon is located in the Columbia River Gorge region of Northwest America. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. It is a small, unincorporated community located on the banks of the river just upstream from Interstate 5 and about 15 miles east of Portland. After European settlers arrived in Oregon in the mid-19th century, they began to established farms and villages along the upper Willamette River. In 1885, a group of investors led by John C. Hall purchased land near what is now Woodburn and founded the town on October 6, 1886. At its founding, Woodburn consisted of only a few homes and a chapel. The town grew quickly due to its location and easy access to markets for goods produced by local farmers. By 1912, Woodburn had erected public buildings including a schoolhouse and opera house. In 1924, the first post office was established in Woodburn. The town continued to grow as businesses became established and residents started purchasing property outside of town limits to create larger communities with more amenities such as schools and churches. In 1951, when Interstate 5 was completed nearby, developers proposed creating an interchange between I-5 and US 101 that would have allowed travelers direct access from all over Oregon into downtown Portland without having to go through Woodburn or any other towns along the way. However, this proposal was never implemented because it conflicted with federal highway regulations which prohibited interstates from being built within one million square feet (100 acres) of rural areas

Woodburn, Oregon is a small town located in the U.S. state of Oregon, about 30 miles north of Salem. The population was 515 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settlers in what would become Woodburn were two families from Illinois, John and Martha Hinton, in 1847. They put up a log cabin on the banks of the Willamette River and started to farm their land. In 1850 they founded the town on land that had been given to them by William Clark as part of his Treaty of Vancouver Island with Japan. In 1853 a post office was established in Woodburn and it was known as "Salem". A store was built in1856 and named "Grammar School". By 1860 there were six stores in town, four of which were operated by white men and two by black men. In 1865 a school was built and named after Mrs. Lillie Waddell (died 1861). A mill was built in 1870 but it failed to produce flour so it was replaced by a gristmill in 1879 which became an electric plant in 1922. The first schoolteacher who taught classes there was Miss Frances Fenton (1857-1927). She opened her doors for instruction on Monday mornings at 7 am until 3 pm during term times when she also preached services at Grace Baptist Church across the street from her school house on Second Street NW corner First Avenue NE (now Fourth Avenue NE). Other early teachers included: Cilla Hinton (1868-1936), Nannie Rankin (1871-1945), Jennie Purdy (1875-1965), Minnie Webster (1900-1984), Bessie Addison(1903-)and Alice Barnes(1920-) After World War II many residents moved away due to social changes such as racial integration or war service; however, many others continued living there through various businesses such as lumber yards or agricultural pursuits until 1971 when most people left because of dwindling resources brought about by mining operations nearby including Gold Hill 2 miles east of town along Interstate 5 . However some have returned since then including members of the original Hinton family who live now near milepost #1 on U.S./Oregon State Route 97
In 1854, the town of Woodburn was platted on the banks of the Willamette River. The town developed as a livestock and crop center due to its location by the river. The first store opened in 1865. In 1903, Woodburn became part of Deschutes County.
