During World War II some residents decided they wanted to show their patriotism by donating items such as clothing or food products (which went into helping support government agencies). Others simply contributed money which would go towards financing the military effort both at home and abroad. In 1951 a new armory was built on State Street in West Linn after years of planning by Mayor Clyde Atherton Jr.. It served as a training ground for local police officers until 1992 when it became operational as the Oregon Army National Guard Armory Museum .

On September 2, 1945, after hostilities had ended and Japan had surrendered, Colonel John Jumper assumed command of Company C of the 9th Infantry Regiment and called it home for good.
