The Tualatin Army Garrison was established in 1855 and served as an auxiliary arm of the Oregon Territory. The Garrison disbanded in 1867, but its legacy can still be seen today in the form of the Tualatin Community College.
Tualatin is a town in the Columbia River Gorge region of Oregon, United States. The population was 37,541 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland–Vancouver–Hillsboro, OR-WA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Tualatin were the Pilgrims in 1606 and Jesuit missionaries in 1611. Jesuit Father Francisco de la Cruz named it "San Miguel" (St. Michael) after his patron saint, and later called it San Francisco del Norte (or simply Tualatin). In 1851, John Settle purchased land at the head of navigation on the Columbia River for $1,000 from local Native Americans. He built a log cabin here and named it Fort Vancouver after his Scottish friend James Buchanan Canning who had made similar purchases near Fort George Vancouver on the lower Fraser River. The first white men to set foot in what is now Tualatin were Lewis and Clark Expedition members Daniel Webster and Asa Gray on July 12, 1805 while they explored northwest through British Columbia into what is now Washington Territory; they also camped here that night under heavy enemy fire from nearby Wacoan Ridge Mountain (). In 1865, during Modoc War II between California Gold Rush miners and Patriot militia leaders such as John Custer (), General Joseph Wheeler () led an army of 5th U.S Cavalry Regiment against Modoc Indians east of present day Mount Hood (); this resulted in about 100 deaths out of a total Indian force estimated at 2,500 (). Afterward General John Custer () donated part of today's Cascade Mountains National Monument to Congress in 1895 as Memorial Park (). A post office was established at Fort Vancouver on October 15, 1865 (), which remained open until January 1st 1909 when it was closed due to low mail volumes (). In 1907 Tualatin became one of several communities located along Interstate 5 where automobiles were allowed unrestricted use by drivers with a valid driver's license or registration card (). At this time there were only two businesses: a grocery store operated by Mrs. Bemis () and an auto dealership with four carsoperated by Mr. Kapp ().Although originally small with just twelve residents living inside one block limits before Interstate 5 arrived(), within five years over sixty businesses had opened up downtown including restaurants such as Chinese Garden (), Japandroids (), butchers (), hardware stores (), banks (. . .) In 1970s new developments began to go up like Crystal City Plaza housing development adjacent to I-5/Washoe Boulevard; further east First Christian Church (now known as Northwest Passage Nazarene Unitarian Universalist Fellowship ()) went up behind Chase bank building merger project back then.). A major highway improvement project started around 1980 increased traffic volume on I-5 westbound from Tillamook County but also created some problems for drivers like long ramps connecting I-5 southbound exit 9A off US 199 west towards Salem finally terminating at NE Hwy 99 which led to many frustrated drivers trying various shortcuts including using side streets ; eventually this caused serious collisions resulting in injuries both because vehicles careened off bridges onto busy roadway intersections etc., plus environmental damage done to intersectional roads leading away from freeway interchange makeover area during nighttime hours.; finally this has lead most recently (May 2009) to proposal for adding more lanes onto I-5 between Portland & Seattle making travel much slower than today even though motorists still continue using these routes without any penalty despite huge impacts on environment & Quality Of Life

Tualatin, Oregon is a small town in Multnomah County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,098 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland metropolitan area and is located on the Tualatin River. The community was founded in 1887 by Mormon pioneers from Utah. The first post office in Tualatin opened in 1888. In 1905, the community became an incorporated town with a government led by aldermen and trustees. The name "Tualatin" comes from the word "tua-alii," meaning "place where trees grow." In 1957, Tualatin voters passed a resolution to become an independent city. On November 5 of that year, Mayor Harry Cramer approved annexation into Portland after years of planning and negotiations with local officials. As part of its incorporation into Portland, Tualatin lost its right to vote or be represented on city councils but regained those rights as an annexe withinPortland's limits. Today, much of what once made up Tualatin has been replaced by newer development - including Interstate 5 and several shopping malls - while older neighborhoods such as Pioneer Square remain vibrant communities full of history and culture.
Tualatin, Oregon was named after the town of Tuzla in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The town was founded by Germans in 1881 as a railway station on the Oregon Central Railroad. The townsite was renamed Tualatin in honor of General James H. Tualatin, who fought in the Mexican-American War and served as Assistant Secretary of War under President Polk.
