Troutdale is a small town inMultnomah County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. Troutdale is located in the southeast corner of Multnomah County, on the east side of the Willamette River. The community was founded by settlers in 1887. It was named after a stream that ran through it. Troutdale has a history that dates back to when humans first arrived in what is now Multnomah County. There are evidence that people were living here as early as 1000 BC. In 1887, one of the men who founded Troutdale married Anna Maria Janssen, who had come from New Sweden colony in what is now Minnesota. They started a store and farm near present-day downtown Troutdale and named their property "Troutdale." The couple had two children: Harry and Anna (née Swanson). Anna Maria Janssen died young and her husband continued to run their store and farm until his death in 1903. In 1907, he married Lillian Morse Johnson and they started another business called The Pole post Office which served the community for many years. Their home still stands today on Main Street near where they operated their post office from 1917 until its closure in 1974. Lillian Morse Johnson also worked at The Pole Post Office as an operator before she married Portland entrepreneur Clarence Morse Jr.. Clarence Morse Sr.'s father had operated a logging company upstream from Troutdale during the early 1800s so he knew about watershed management and trout spawning habitat restoration firsthand which led to his involvement with trout stocking programs throughout Oregon during the 1930s-1940s when he became president of Timberland Company—Oregon's largest lumber producer—and helped lead efforts to preserve rainforest resources statewide including Troutdale Creek watershed]. In 1938, Clarence Morse Jr., wife Lillie (Swanson) Morse Johnson & son Harry formed Huckleberry Finn Farms Incorporated to began growing hay for cattle on land bordering Clearwater Creek just outside town limits along with other crops such as peas, carrots & beets etc.; haying operations would continue until 1977 when operations were moved indoors due to chemical contamination concerns brought about by then Forest Service Deputy Manager Don Armstrong’s purchase of some 160 acres adjacent to Clearwater Creek Dam; however these initial endeavors failed due largely to lack of irrigation water available downstream from dam] When Don Armstrong retired from forestry service circa 1978 thru 1984 he sold all operations within city limits except haying operation which continued under new name “Huck Finn Dairy” until 1990 when it merged into local creamery known today asOPEN BAKING COFFEE COASTAL BREWING COMPANY
