In 1861-1862 military forces commanded by General Julius Custer burned much agricultural land available for settlement in southeastern Oregon due to fears of Indian attacks led by Chief Joseph Kootenai from Mount Hood on behalf of Chief Simeon Hayden’s band of Umatilla Indians living eastward on Salome Strait opposite Whatcom County outside Seattle during what became known as “The Battle Of The Bridge†or “Battle At The Bridge Over The Snake River†fought between Umpqua Battalion Arkansas Infantry Regiment under First Lieutenant Rufus Wainwright joined by Company G Sherman’s 5th Michigan Cavalry Regiment under Major George Armstrong Custer while commandeered by Captain James F Crocker from company K Fourth New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment led by Colonel Samuel J Hooker were attacking Native American village called Wanapum Creek located southeast corner Wanapum Prairie extending into Whatcom County just northwest side Spokane Street bridge over Snake River 3 miles northwest cornerof Eagle Lakes Road leading south towards Ruby Mountains

Tigard, Oregon is a town in Clackamas County, Oregon, United States. The population was 3,912 at the 2010 census. Tigard is home to the University of Portland and the regional airport. The name "Tigard" comes from an early settler named Tiburon who named his farm after Tigard, England. The area that now Tigard was first settled by people of the same tribe as the Nez Perce. In 1847, David Lloyd started a sawmill on the Columbia River near modern-day Salem about 20 miles (32 km) south of Tigard. This mill became one of the first commercial mills in Oregon and helped to create a rural area around it which today remains important for agriculture and industry. In 1872, Judge George Washington Beall organized what would become Clackamas County and erected its first courthouse in Tigard. He also donated land to build a school system in what would become Clackamas County - this donation formed much of present-day eastern part of Tigard downtown core. In 1882, John Atherton founded Atherton Mills in present-day Eugene and soon began exporting flour and other goods from his mill eastward into Multnomah County and beyond to satisfy demand from farmers throughout Oregon. In 1906 construction began on Multnomah Falls Bridge across Willamette River; this bridge connected Tigard with Portland overriver and made it possible for residents of both towns to have easy access to their respective cultures without having to go far away each time they wanted something different or wanted new experiences outside their homes
