After World War II ended, Douglas Academy became part of Lake Oswego Elementary School District #1 which also included nearby Hanford High School and Silver Lake Elementary School before merging into River Hills School District #1 in 2003 . The first people to live in what is now Tigard were the Cascades who built their village near present day Pioneer Boulevard and Westwick Street about 1800 BC. In 1872, James K. Tigard came to this area from Champaign, Illinois and began settlement of the area around present day Tigard with his family. One of his sons, John Fayette Tigard also arrived here about 1872 and started homesteading along the Snake River Plain east of town on land that he purchased from George Swanenburg. In 1878, when City Hall was moved to its current location on Main Street between First Avenue and Woodward Boulevard (now University Avenue), James K.'s heirs sold him 1/2 mile (1 km) of west side lot extending north from Airport Road for $10 per acre (0.40 ha).
