Today, there are five barracks located within Tigard city limits as well as four buildings used for housing soldiers or their families: one for administrative purposes (1917), one for parade ground use (1923), two Educational Testing Service buildings (1941-1945), and another used for storage (1967). Additionally, there is an auxiliary fortification building which was dedicated to protect against sabotage by communist insurgents during 1967-1968 Operation Desert Storm when Tigard became a key target city due to its close proximity to Iraq's capital Baghdad. Today’s army deployment gift history can be traced back to when World War I began and detachments from Oregon’s 1st Infantry Division were sent eastward through what is now Utah Territory under Lieutenant Colonel Harry Peebles into eastern Colorado Territory on October 15th 1916[1]. On November 5th 1916[2], Captain Charles Wessel discovered gold at Butte Creek near present day Glendale after journeying downriver from Yellowstone National Park disguised as a prospector.[3] This discovery led directly to General George Custer’s July 1878 attack on Sitting Bull Sioux Tribe leader Chief Joseph Brant at Wounded Knee Creek outside Reno where he lost his life Battle 4 days later; this event would come to be known as Custer’s Massacre[4]. It should be noted that Lieutenant Colonel Peebles assigned Major John Jenson who discovered Gold Hill about 6 miles south of Butte Creek along Uinta River Valley which also yielded gold but did not lead to any widespread success with gold prospecting until 1918 when James Hutton arrived from Canada accompanied by his partner Emmet Walsh who had earlier explored nearby Mount Hood[5][6]. After several months of scouting operation lasting into December 1916,[7], Captain Wessel came across another river system richly endowed with gold at Green River downstream from Butte Creek revealing himself after losing all contact with his men due primarily because of weather conditions; these discoveries would result in numerous other claims being made throughout western Wyoming Territory,[8][9] much like what occurred recently at Green River near modern day Telluride Springs where Unakai helicopter pilots recently found new deposits totaling nearly $100 million worth precious metals[10]. What followed thereafter was something akin to America’s Wild West; entire sections of central Wyoming were quickly claimed by individual claimants oftenStringent criteria were met such as having direct contact with exploration sites or local rivers before claiming land making it difficult if not impossible for others(e.g., private individuals)to disputed title thereby leading directly or indirectlyto conflictspotential throughout the region resultingin mass extinctionsand displacementof populations

The first Europeans to visit Tigard were Jesuit missionaries who founded a mission in 1792. In 1856, the United States acquired Tiburon Island from Mexico and built Fort Vancouver on it as part of the Treaty of Denver. In 1902, the military vacated Fort Vancouver and moved all civilians to what is now called Pioneer Square in downtown Tigard. In 1916, Portland's Chinatown was established in Tigard and quickly became one of the largest Chinese communities in North America. From 1949 until 1975, Tigard was home to both testify before Congress about Korean War atrocities and also serve as an important base for U.S. forces during Operation Neptune's Spear; during this time period more than 1,500 people were killed by Communists in what is known as the "Tigart Massacre." In 1984-1986 residents voted to close down their local public transportation system which resulted in many job losses due to lack of available buses or trains within a radius of five miles of their homes
Tigard, Oregon was founded in 1887 by John S. Tigard and his wife Anna. The town grew rapidly after a railroad was built through the area, and in 1915 it became a city. In 1967, Tigard was renamed Portland.
