Sherwood is an unincorporated community in Wasco County, Oregon, United States. It lies on the west side of the Hood River Valley, north of the town of La Grande and east of the city of Portland. The population was 514 at the 2000 census. The first people to live in Sherwood were settlers from Washington Territory who came in 1851. A post office was established here in 1872, and after a few years it was closed due to lack of customers. In 1875 a wagon road was built from La Grande to Sherwood, making it possible for farmers to sell their goods directly to consumers rather than going through town. After this development, business grew more brisk, and by 1886 there were six businesses in operation. In 1903 a schoolhouse was built here and served as the community's only school until 1924 when a new school building was erected. The current post office building dates back to 1935; it has been remodeled several times since then including once as an ambulatory surgery center. A variety of industries have contributed to Sherwood's economy over its history: farming, logging, manufacturing (particularly auto parts), retail trade (including grocery stores and hardware stores), and agricultural research. One notable industry that has not operated here recently is tourism which has declined in popularity among residents because Of high expenses associated with hosting conventions or visitors during off-peak hours; however some residents do enjoy using the area for hiking or fishing trips

Sherwood was founded in 1885 by the father and son of pioneers, Jedediah and Mary Lyon. The town was named for the Forest Service ranger who had served in the area earlier. The town grew rapidly due to its location near the timber resources and railroad lines. By 1907, Sherwood had a population of over 100 people. In 1916, the first school opened in Sherwood. By 1920, there were ten businesses in town and over 100 residents. In 1924, an electric streetlight was installed in Sherwood. The town continued to grow until it reached its peak during World War II when it had a population of 300 people. After the war, the population decreased as many of the jobs moved away or were lost due to technological advancements. In 1960, Sherwood became an unincorporated community with a population of only 10 people. However, it continued to exist until 1996 when it amalgamated with neighbouring Clearwater to form what is now called Oregon City-Sherwood Community School District
Sherwood, Oregon was founded in 1885 by Arthur and Emma Ladd. The town was named after a nearby tree, Sherwood Forest. The Ladds were pioneers in the region and built the first post office and store in the community. In 1907, they also became the first residents of Sherwood Forest Township.
