Sherwood is a city in Clark County, Oregon, United States. The population was 15,803 as of the 2010 census. The name comes from the Forest Service's Forrestal Ranch which once occupied most of the town. The Forest Service first came to Sherwood in 1937 when it purchased 2,500 acres (8 km²) of land south of the city for $1 million. It would be 20 years before they built their first fire lookout tower and purchase more land for development. In 1959, they completed their first elementary school and Storey Elementary School followed in 1966. In 1978, they had their own ZIP Code--52002--and became an urban area with its own police department and fire fighters. In 1990, they completed construction on a new library which now serves as the main civic center for the city. They also completed annexation of much of surrounding Clark County in that same year making them one municipality with a total population over 25,000 residents! In 2002-2003, Sherwood was named an “ OUTstanding City” by USA Today magazine!

Sherwood is a town in Douglas County, Oregon, United States. It was founded in 1881 by settlers from Illinois and Wisconsin. The population was 590 as of the 2010 census. The first settlers to arrive in what is now Sherwood were farmers who had emigrated from Illinois and Wisconsin. They built log cabins and farms around a small creek that later became the name of the town. In 1881, John Pugh opened a store in what is now Sherwood and soon began trading goods with the nearby towns of Pendleton and Salem. In 1882, Oregon Territorial Governor David Astor approved plans for a school district in Douglas County and appointed George Waddell as its first superintendent. Waddell constructed the first schoolhouse in Sherwood on West Main Street. By 1883, there were two schools in Sherwood – one for boys and one for girls – along with a post office, bank, hotel, livery stable, grain elevator, blacksmith shop, sawmill, bakery (now an restaurant), brewery (now closed), physician’s office (now an auto garage), grain storage warehouse (now closed), barn (now home to The Gilded Cage steak house) and three churches: First Presbyterian Church on South Main Street; Latter-day Saints’ Zion Temple on North Main Street; and Methodist Episcopal Zion Church on East Second Street. During World War I (1914-1918),Sherwood served as Headquarters Unit 4123rd Infantry Regiment of the U.S Army Corps of Engineers which built roads throughout western Oregon during that war including Highway 97 near present day Hood River In 1922 whenDouglas County was organized into chapters it included parts of Shermantown which then incorporated into Sherwood following annexation by that city Sherwood has seen many changes over time including being annexed by Hood River Valley City several times while maintaining its own Republican Party registration requirements until finally joining forces with Hood River Valley City effective January 1st 2020
